An opportunity is available for an Electricity Distribution Network First Responder to join us, based at our depot in Alfreton. Our electrical engineers are the backbone of our organisation and play a pivotal role in restoring electricity supplies for our customers. Working alone, you will often be the first person our customers meet and we hope, the colleague who resolves their issue. You will have strong links to other Field Operations teams who can support onsite, when necessary, but on the whole, you will be the face of National Grid onsite, providing solutions and an exceptional customer experience.

Some of the issues our customers could need you to resolve include:

  • Loss of supply at their property
  • Safety concerns on our network
  • Carrying out asset inspections
  • Fitting meter isolator switches

You will work 37 hours a week and subject to business need there may be requirement to undertake standby duties to provide coverage for our customers 24/7.

Responsibilities

  • Resolve issues such as loss of supply at customers' properties and safety concerns on the network
  • Carry out asset inspections or fitting meter isolator switches
  • Provide exceptional customer service while representing National Grid onsite
  • Work in line with ESQCR & Electricity at Work Regulations and contribute to a proactive safety culture
  • Commit to standby duties as required to cover customer needs 24/7 (subject to business need)

Qualifications

  • Hold a recognised Level 2 Electrical qualification (NVQ/City & Guilds) or equivalent
  • Evidence of qualifications required on appointment
  • Full UK/EU driving licence is essential; company vehicle provided for business use
  • Subject to business need, may broaden duties to carry out switching at HV; annual allowance may be available for this work
  • Holding a NRSWA qualification or understanding of NRSWA legislation is desirable; full training can be provided
