Electricity Distribution – Engineering Specialist

We are looking for an Engineering Specialist based at Worcester. The role reports to the Operations Manager and involves the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of complex schemes on the distribution network and at non‑operational sites up to 66 kV.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • English and Maths GCSE Grade C / Level 4 or above OR Functional Skills Level 2 or above.
  • Level 3 City & Guilds 2339 (or equivalent Electrical Engineering qualification).
  • Completion of HNC Electrical and Electronic Engineering if not already attained.
  • Evidence of qualifications required prior to appointment.
  • Full UK/EU driving licence.
  • DBS check (satisfactory Barring Service) required.
  • Flexible outlook – may be requested to assist the team with other duties.
  • Live within approximately 1 hour of Worcester (postcode WR4 9TB).

Main Responsibilities

  • Installation and commissioning of complex schemes on the network and at operational sites.
  • Install, commission, and maintain complex protection and/or automation systems.
  • Location and restoration of complex faults.
  • Develop use of fault location and protection testing equipment.
  • Advise own and other team members on innovations in electricity network management and automation.
  • Identify training needs and provide training on automation.
  • Carry out examining officer duties as required.
  • Train appropriate staff on the operational aspects of automatic systems.
  • Carry out network operations, including issuing all safety documents up to 66 kV.
  • Determine what is required and how the work will be carried out.
  • Issue planned shutdown notices and make appointments with customers.
  • Exercise leadership and request assistance when outside capability or authority.
  • Adjust short‑term programme to meet circumstances within constraints.
  • Assist in the assessment and authorisation of operational staff.
