An opportunity is available for a Craftsperson (Jointing) based in Torr Quarry. In this role you will be required to undertake Jointing techniques up to 66kV, including excavation, cable laying, reinstatement and fault location on LV cables.

Candidates are required to have Grade A C/4-9 GCSE in English and Maths or Functional Skills Level qualification in both subjects. Evidence of your qualifications will be required prior to appointment. Depending on experience, you may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete.

The successful applicant will ideally have underground experience. Consideration will be given to applicants who do not possess all the skills required to undertake the role at present but have the confidence and ability to reach the necessary standards with appropriate training.

If not already attained, the successful candidate will be required to study for the relevant City & Guilds Level 2 qualification in Electrical Engineering and complete TAR - which includes daily diary page completion, and a number of tasks and reports as required.

You must be able to work on your own initiative as part of a small team, making on the spot decisions as required and working to tight deadlines. A flexible attitude is essential, as you will be required to undertake other duties to assist the team in meeting its objectives. In addition, you will need to be mobile throughout the area as you may be required to undertake standby duties.

Operationally we require you to live within approximately 30 minutes of the depot you are applying for. Potential candidates should be aware that for some National Grid positions that require working at height, or use fall arrest devices, there is an upper weight limit of 135kg due to maximum safe working load of the safety equipment that is used.

This role is subject to a satisfactory Barring Service (DBS) Check, depending on the role different levels of screening and vetting are required. Some roles require a triannual check.
