Main Responsibilities
- Understand the tasks assigned before commencing work.
- Promote a culture of Health, Safety & Quality at all times.
- Prepare the work site, including erecting signs and barriers.
- Excavate, lay cable, backfill, and dig pole and stay holes.
- Install meter boards, meters, and cut-outs.
- Make single-phase and three-phase service terminations in the cut-out dead.
- Operate mini excavators.
- Provide first aid as required, according to training.
- Maintain tools, equipment, materials, and vehicles in a safe condition.
- Assist team members and assess the impact of work activities on customers.
- Minimize adverse impacts on customers and resolve complaints when possible.
- Assess site risks and take appropriate actions to mitigate them.
- Follow safety instructions, use protective equipment, and report accidents and incidents.
The Ideal Candidate
This role involves working away from the depot in teams, often outdoors in a physically demanding environment. Flexibility, quick decision-making, and responsibility are essential. Candidates should be mobile across the area and may need to undertake out-of-hours standby duties. A full driving license is desirable. Electrical experience is advantageous but not mandatory, as full training will be provided.
Additional Requirements
- Living within approximately 30 minutes of the Exeter or Torquay depot, with frequent travel between both locations.
- Willingness to undertake a satisfactory DBS check, depending on the role.
- English GCSE (1-9) or equivalent qualification is required.
