About the Role
Would you like to work for a company that makes electricity happen for every single person in England and Wales? A company that invests billions in Net Zero and creating a brighter energy future? Imagine being paid over £23,000 a year while you train, with free food, accommodation, and travel included. The training is carried out through a combination of courses run at our Global Technical Training Centre of Excellence and on-site training on real transmission equipment in a live substation environment.
Our three-year Advanced Apprenticeship Substations programme will train you to become a craftsman in our substations. Here, we transform high-voltage electricity into low-voltage electricity, making it usable for homes and businesses. As a technician, you'll play a vital role in maintaining our substations, ensuring a safe and reliable electricity supply. During the apprenticeship, you'll learn maintenance techniques for power transformers, main connections, terminals, and various types of joints. You'll also gain experience working with air systems, batteries, and environmental battery charger systems. Following strict safety guidelines, you'll be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and monitoring of high-voltage substation equipment, including circuit breakers, transformers, disconnectors, compressors, and auxiliary systems. Your skills and expertise will contribute to the smooth operation of our substations and the overall electricity transmission network. By the end of the programme, you'll hold a Level 3 qualification as a Power Industry Substation Fitter, and most importantly, have a job waiting for you.
About You
You must live within 45 minutes of one of the following postcodes: CV8 1PH, CV2 1NL, B96 6HL, B46 1AW, B69 2AX, DY13 9SE. You're driven, proactive, and always seeking ways to improve. Building on your existing knowledge and skills is second nature to you, and you have the enthusiasm to take things to the next level. Communication comes naturally to you, and you know how to adapt your approach to connect with different people. As a flexible multitasker, you can handle multiple responsibilities while paying great attention to detail. Academic brilliance isn't the only thing we're looking for; we value practical individuals with engineering mindsets who are eager to apply themselves.
Here's what you'll need:
- Five GCSEs or equivalent qualifications, including passes in Maths and English Language (grades 4/C or above) OR a Level 2 Pass in Functional Skills.
- You must be able to live away from home; primarily at our Eakring academy in Nottinghamshire.
