A temporary opportunity is available to join the Wales Control Centres Team as a Control Operations Support for a period of up to 9 months, you’ll be part of a team critical to underpinning our Control Centre function.

This position also provides the option of a job share arrangement.

Depending on experience, you may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete.

Main Responsibilities

Working on a 2-shift Rota system (mornings, afternoons; including weekend & bank holiday morning working). Providing critical support to Control Engineers, the Control Leadership Team, and Operations Support Function, responsibilities will include:

  • Power On Advantage/ CROWN referencing of substations at all voltages, up to and including 132kV and normal network running arrangements
  • Manage all planned patches for mapping and auditing purposes. Check prearranged patches and asset amendments, up to and including 132kv
  • Confirm patch and diagram changes and send to mapping
  • Power On Advantage editing and patching
  • Power On Advantage / CROWN data quality monitoring and reporting
  • Monitor and action emails from Distributed Generator customers and update and maintain generator documents on OMS system
  • Booking on/off Operational staff working in the vicinity of the network, up to and including 132kV
  • Collate, issue and communicate management information and reports
  • Safety document monitoring and reporting for safety auditing purposes
  • Check faults for the previous 24hrs for changes on the network
  • Storm support and triage during adverse weather conditions
  • Other duties as appropriate to the grade

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be an effective team player, be able to work unsupervised and would ideally have some knowledge of Mapping or Network Diagram systems, for example Power On (ADMS). Also, advantageous if able to use databases and Microsoft Office, or similar systems. You must have the ability to communicate effectively with all of our internal stakeholders and be able to maintain excellent standards of work.

Candidate should live within 60 minutes of the Control Centre.

A s the post you are applying for attracts a National Security Vetting clearance there are further eligibility requirements, information can be found on the gov.uk website . To meet national security vetting requirements, you will normally need to have been resident in the UK for at least 5 years for Security Clearance (SC) prior to the date of application. There are exceptions to this however and examples of these include:

  • you have been serving overseas with HM Forces or in some other official capacity as a representative of HM Government

The teams in Control are focused on ensuring the network is secure, contingencies are in place and lost supplies are restored as quickly as possible, minimising customer minutes lost and customer interruptions.

Control Centre teams also liaise with the National Grid and the Government to manage national network demand and monitor the potential for incidents or emergencies.
