At the heart of achieving these outcomes is the safe and effective management of the commissioning of new and replacement assets on to our network. As Commissioning Specialist, you will proactively deliver compliant Commissioning Switching Programmes (CSPs) for Control Room implementation. You will be the subject matter expert for the Commissioning team, supervising the training and development of 4x commissioning leads and aiding with complex CSPs. You’ll manage and co-ordinate all internal and external parties to ensure a safe, network secure commissioning strategy and sequence, on time and without adversely impacting other planned outputs.

You’ll lead the operational technical comment on CSPs, approve the switching strategy and sequence on behalf of the control room, and resolve any issues relating to delivery of CSPs in the control room. You’ll be responsible for system security, safety and that customer supplies are maintained at all times. In addition, you’ll be accountable for the production and distribution of operational documents required for operation in the control room and submission to the Electricity System Operator. You’ll be based in Warwick for 2 days per week and you’ll combine this with hybrid working from home.

What you’ll need:

  • Previous experience of working with commissioning or switching plans.
  • Control Engineer, Distribution Network Operator (DNO) control room, or Senior Authorised Person (SAP) authorisation.
  • Excellent understanding of transmission network operation and basic analysis techniques.
  • Up to date Control Room experience would be beneficial.
  • Minimum of HNC in an engineering or STEM related subject, or equivalent experience.
  • Understanding of the transmission system safety issues and all relevant Procedures.
  • Supervisory or mentoring experience would be advantageous.
  • Ability to work under pressure, remaining calm and focused on the task at hand.
  • Good logical, analytic thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication with decision making skills.
  • Ability to work within tight timescales and make accurate assessments of multiple interdependent operational activities.
