We’re pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for an experienced Business & Digital Transformation Manager to join our newly established Transformation office at National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED). Reporting directly to the Head of Transformation, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping and driving the delivery of digital and technology activity across NGED’s transformation programmes and wider business priorities. You’ll bring clarity and structure, providing senior leaders with clear insight into progress, milestones, dependencies and risks — enabling strong governance and informed decision‑making. This role sits at the intersection of business and technology. You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders, business leaders and IT & Digital teams to ensure digital priorities are aligned to transformation and other business outcomes and delivered at pace. The role offers a hybrid working approach—mix of home and office working. You can base yourself at any of our sites across the East Midlands, West Midlands, South West, or Wales, with travel to NGED locations 2–3 times a week.
Responsibilities
- Works with business areas and IT&D to drive progress and ensure visibility of IT&D deliverables in the Transformation Programme and to meet broader business needs.
- Ensures business owners are determining their digital prioritisation within the Transformation programmes and wider NGED business.
- Ensures that digital related progress, dependencies and risks are clearly understood, communicated and reflected in transformation reporting and governance.
- Ensures visibility of the prioritised IT&D backlogs, aligned to Transformation outcomes and wider business deliverables.
- Creates and maintains transformation roadmaps and ensures visibility of IT&D deliverable dependencies, working with business and IT&D teams to identify risks and ensure mitigation plans are defined, helping re-prioritise deliverables as needed.
- Supports the definition and tracking of measures, targets and KPIs to enable effective benefits realisation and outcome reporting.
- Works with senior stakeholders to ensure alignment between digital and technology activity and business objectives.
- Supports the adoption and embedding across NGED of agile delivery practices and the product ownership strategy, including product roadmaps, prioritisation processes in alignment with commercial objectives and KPIs and business needs.
- Provides robust, productive challenge to the pace and scale of digital delivery with transparent performance reporting to ensure execution is effective on time and risks are managed.
Qualifications
- Experience in business transformation with strong IT&D components, including developing roadmaps, defining benefits cases and complex programme management.
- Able to identify areas to add value, structure work needed and proactively deliver.
- Demonstrates the ability to take full ownership, drive delivery of planned results, identify and remove any roadblocks.
- Demonstrates the ability to clearly structure and manage complex projects/programmes across a wide range of stakeholders and extended teams.
- Ability to proactively identify and highlight risks, issues and dependencies and work with the business unit and IT&D teams to identify and implement mitigations.
- Strong analytical, data and critical thinking skills; can break down problems into root causes, drivers and structure clearly an action plan and work with individuals to move forward at pace to address.
- Strong communication skills, both written (Powerpoint & Word) and verbal with an ability to get to the key insights and recommendations clearly and effectively at multiple levels.
- Experience working with senior stakeholders, with the ability to build trusted relationships and enable informed decision-making.
- Effective people management skills with the ability to influence and manage individuals across multiple teams to work together.
- Experience working in an Agile Operating Model will be an advantage.
