National Grid is hiring a Cable Engineering Manager accountable for the overall design of HV cable systems across our OHA projects. This role involves managing a team of engineers to provide design governance across all cable contractors, including but not limited to cable OEMs, civil works contractors, and ancillary systems and monitoring.

The role is primarily office-based at the main NGV office in Warwick, with regular national and international travel for meetings with project partners and design consultants. Frequent visits to the cable route and converter station site are also expected. Team members are currently permitted to work up to 6 days a fortnight from home but this is likely to reduce as the project develops.

Please note you must have a full UK driving licence and be able to drive for this role.

What you\’ll do

  • Ensure that all HV cable systems are safe to operate and maintain.
  • Ensure that all HV cable systems are reliable.
  • Embed safety by design principles into suppliers\’ and contractors\’ design solutions.
  • Act as the senior technical interface for OHA cable systems with internal and external customers, authorities, OEMs, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Provide line management and performance management for up to 5 team members.

What you\’ll need

  • Proven experience in delivering large infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in successfully delivering multiple projects, with the ability to produce high-quality work under tight deadlines.
  • In-depth knowledge of the power industry.
  • Technical understanding of the main components that comprise a converter station.
  • Experience in making critical business and operational decisions with varying priorities
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills for effective internal and external communication.
  • Ability to foster collaboration and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational skills to manage multiple work packages and interfaces effectively.

What you\’ll get

A competitive salary between £78,000 – £94,000 per annum- dependent on capability.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
