An opportunity is available for a Flexibility Commercial Officer to join the Flexibility Markets Team. You will be based at either our Bristol or Castle Donington site.
National Grid Electricity Distribution established National Grid Distribution System Operator (DSO) as a functionally separate directorate to develop and operate their networks more efficiently, considering flexible alternatives to network reinforcement. The Flexibility Markets team is a core function of National Grid DSO helping to deliver its objective of efficiently maximising the security of our network. The Flexibility Markets team is responsible for assessing volumes of flexibility services required, the procurement of flexibility services, and shaping the design and evolution of local flexibility markets.
National Grid DSO plays a critical role in the transformation of Great Britain’s energy system. As we plan and operate the distribution network of the future, we are enabling the transition to clean power, supporting net zero, and ensuring the network remains safe, secure, and delivers value for money for consumers. The GB energy system is rapidly transforming as we target Clean Power by 2030 and net zero by 2050. The distribution network is vital in this transformation as we look to accommodate hundreds of thousands of electric vehicles and heat pumps in people’s homes and connect large volumes of solar and wind. This will require us building out our network at a rate we have not seen this century. At the same time, we need to operate the network in a dynamic, ‘smarter’ way, actively managing these distributed assets flexibly to support safer, secure, and economic operation of the system.
