Responsibilities

  • Performance of Energy Management Centre functions including but not limited to: near real-time load forecasting; network modelling; network constraint assessment; mitigation optioneering; activating operational instructions.
  • Evidence team and own progress through relevant reporting.
  • Development of DSO Operational processes to provide enhanced benefits to customers and improved network operability.
  • Assisting the DNO Control Centre in undertaking duties related to the Energy Management Centre.
  • Preparation and interpretation of data required to assist in the operation of Energy Management Centre actions.
  • Produce, maintain and review documentation, training and policy to support ongoing knowledge management of duties related to the Energy Management Centre.
  • Demonstrate thought leadership, representing NGED at internal and external working groups and events.
  • Other duties appropriate to the grade.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate should be a team player, have the ability to work on their own initiative, pay attention to detail and possess the ability to communicate effectively across the business, at all levels. The role holder should ideally be educated to a degree level, in electrical engineering or data science. Experience of: data processing (SQL); Electrical System Modelling (PSSE) and programming (Python) will be advantageous to the role. In addition, knowledge / experience of the principles and issues associated with high voltage electrical system operation is highly desirable. You will be able to understand the impact of your own activities on customers, public and the environment, and be confident in managing the health, safety and quality of both your own work and others. Applicants may not necessarily possess all the skills required to carry out the role at present but should have the confidence and ability to reach the necessary standards with in-role training. Where appropriate, the appointment will initially be on a designate basis pending completion of the required training. A flexible attitude is essential as you may be asked to undertake other duties to assist the team in meeting its objectives. Hybrid working is available, with arrangements to be agreed, though this is expected to be around two days per week in the office.

An opportunity is available for a DSO Energy Management Centre Engineer based at either Bristol or Castle Donington. This role will report to the Head of DSO Operations and will lead on the development of processes, systems and training required to form the DSO Energy Management Centre. The DSO Operations Team is a core function of the DSO and central to ensuring that as the operation of our network becomes more dynamic, we continue to operate a safe and reliable network to keep the lights on for our customers. Depending on experience, you may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete.
