Are you a passionate and experienced Senior Authorised Person (SAP) or Authorised Person (AP) eager to inspire the next generation? We are looking for a knowledgeable individual to join our training team at our Tipton or Taunton Training Centre. In this exciting role, you will report to a Technical Training Delivery Manager and lead engaging operational training courses. Your responsibilities will include not only teaching but also collaborating on the design and development of innovative training programmes that utilise interactive blended learning solutions. You will play a key role in enhancing our training assets and facilities, working closely with subject matter experts to ensure our training meets the evolving needs of our workforce. You’ll deliver training to apprentices, new hires and operational staff. To thrive in this position, you should possess excellent communication and relationship-building skills, ideally as an SAP or AP. Experience in coaching or mentoring others is a plus. Successful candidates will receive training to enhance their presentation and training skills.
Training will primarily take place at our Tipton and Taunton Training Centres, with travel to other training centres, and operational sites across the UK. Join us and help shape the future of our industry!

Main Responsibilities:
- Deliver quality training in classroom and workshop environments.
- Use experience to help in the design and development of technical and safety training to meet customer requirements.
- Support the maintenance of training products, ensuring compliance with internal quality assurance processes.
- Ensure training products meet relevant safety and technical requirements.
- Interact with technical experts and relevant departments to ensure training is developed to meet necessary standards.
- Review latest technical and safety bulletins to remain knowledgeable on safety training matters.
- Review lesson plans and presentations to ensure sessions are delivered to a high standard.
- Support the team by carrying out observations to identify and implement improvements.
- Maintain training centre facilities and equipment.
- Ensure training equipment is maintained, calibrated, and tested as necessary.
- Conduct safety walks for areas of responsibility.
- Assess individuals carrying out practical activities to ensure they meet qualification standards.
- Work with the Design and Innovation Team to drive improvements and new products.
- Health & Safety, Safeguarding responsibilities to learners.
- Completion of accurate course reports and assessments documentation.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Recognised Level 3 Engineering Advanced Apprenticeship, Appropriate Technical Qualification - ONC/ HNC or equivalent Electrical Engineering Qualification.
- Extensive relevant experience as a senior authorised person or authorised person.
- Sound understanding of the Distribution Safety Rules and associated Policies.
- Excellent communication and time management / planning skills.
- Good degree of IT skills and be conversant with Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Experience of managing teams or work activities desirable.
- The following are desirable: Previous training experience, knowledge of coaching of others would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of Safeguarding, or working with young adults is desirable but training will be given.
- NEBOSH certificate / diploma or equivalent safety qualifications.
The successful applicant will be expected to study for and successfully complete a suitable professional training qualification. Although this role will be based at Tipton or Taunton, the successful candidate will be required to travel to other sites as required to meet the needs of the business. A full valid driving licence is required to be held as part of this role. You will be working with employees of various ages and some who are aged between 16 and 18. National Grid have a responsibility to ensure young people are safe within the business and we will require a DBS check to be undertaken by the successful applicant at the Enhanced level. Short listed candidates will be required to create a training presentation on a given topic which you will present in the interview. Interviews are due to be held w/c 09 March 2026. National Grid Electricity Distribution is committed to safeguarding the interests of the Company, colleagues and customers. This role is subject to a satisfactory Barring Service, (DBS) check, depending on the role different levels of screening and vetting are required. Some roles require a triannual check.
