What You’ll Be Responsible For

  • Promoting and sustaining high-quality performance across construction works and contractor activities.
  • Offering specialist guidance on construction and manufacturing assurance, helping teams understand the impacts of poor quality, defects and rework on cost, programme and safety.
  • Contributing to the successful implementation of the company’s Quality Strategy across projects, from early design through to commissioning.
  • Providing quality input during tender and contract award processes to ensure robust quality requirements are embedded from the outset.
  • Conducting regular site visits and quality walks, attending project meetings, and working closely with site teams to identify non-conformances and drive effective resolution.
  • Leading or supporting investigations into significant quality issues, providing clear guidance on corrective actions and sharing lessons learned.
  • Engaging with managers, staff and contractors to build capability and promote a positive, proactive quality culture across Customer Connections.
  • Delivering independent quality assurance, audits and compliance checks against National Grid standards and contractor ISO systems.
  • Producing monthly quality performance data, supporting the Quality Safety Management System (SMS), and contributing to the development and review of policies, procedures and specifications.

What You’ll Need

  • A recognised health, safety or quality qualification such as NEBOSH Certificate, IOSH Managing Safely, or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of Quality Management within construction environments, including ISO standards and compliance requirements.
  • Proven experience working in a Quality-focused role within a construction, utilities, infrastructure or similarly regulated industry.
  • A full UK driving licence, enabling travel to sites across the region.
  • A good understanding of National Grid policies, procedures and specifications—particularly those relating to project design and construction delivery—would be advantageous.
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills, with the ability to influence, motivate and engage others.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with confidence interacting at all levels of the organisation and supply chain.
  • The ability to identify risks and improvement opportunities, recommend preventative actions, and successfully embed new quality initiatives.
  • Experience developing and delivering training sessions, briefings and guidance materials in an engaging and effective way.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to recognise patterns of resistance and address them constructively.
  • A solid working knowledge of the CDM Regulations, particularly the responsibilities of the Client, Principal Designer and Principal Contractor.
