About Strategic Infrastructure
Strategic Infrastructure, part of National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET), delivers major electricity transmission projects across England and Wales. Our team is responsible for 17 critical new projects that support the UK Government's ambition to connect 50GW of offshore wind by 2030 under Ofgem's Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) framework. We also lead early‑stage development of future strategic infrastructure, ensuring we are ready for the nation's evolving energy needs.
Graduate Associate Project Manager – Role Overview
As a Graduate Associate Project Manager you will support the delivery of these transformative projects, working alongside experienced Project Managers and across engineering, procurement, commercial and construction activities. You will help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards of quality, time and cost. Throughout the project lifecycle you will develop skills in commercial, contractual and financial management, contribute to innovative and compliant design solutions, and support quality assurance processes and the Quality Management System.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in planning, scheduling and resource allocation for project activities.
- Track and report on project progress, risks and issues.
- Support procurement and supplier management activities.
- Help maintain the Quality Management System and ensure compliance with National Grid's Safety, Health & Sustainability standards and UK Health & Safety legislation.
- Monitor contractor activities on site to ensure alignment with project requirements.
- Contribute to commercial and contractual management tasks.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 2:2 from an Electrical Engineering degree (or equivalent). Applicants may still be considered if the degree does not meet the requirement but other relevant degrees (Civil Engineering, Project Management, Maths, Physics, Economics) are available.
- Valid full UK driving licence (or a practical test booked) at the time of assessment centre if the application proceeds.
- Willingness to travel regularly within the region and occasionally nationwide.
- Currently studying or recently graduated; recent completion is acceptable.
- Strong communication, teamwork and organisational skills.
Graduate Programme
The role is part of an 18‑month graduate programme that provides a tailored development pathway across leadership, business and technical skills. Participants attend both in‑person and virtual development sessions, receive 1:1 coaching, mentoring and access to National Grid IET membership for those aiming for chartership.
Recruitment & Eligibility
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and the vacancy may be closed once sufficient applications have been received. Assessment centres will be held between November – April 2026. Location & Working Arrangements
The role is based in Castle Donington, Derby. A flexible hybrid working model is available where possible, but the role requires regular travel to office locations, substations and potentially nationwide sites. Candidates must live within a 45‑minute commute of the contractual base location.
Salary & Benefits
- Graduate starting salary: £36,640.
- £2,000 bonus, once joined and started on programme.
- 26 days holiday.
- £2,400 payment on successful completion of the programme.
- Up to £200 per month accommodation allowance for travel within the business, and additional annual leave for placement moves plus assistance with moving personal belongings.
