National Grid Ventures (NGV) develops, operates and invests in energy infrastructure that supports the transition to a low-carbon economy. Our Interconnectors business connects the UK to neighbouring energy markets, improving security of supply, supporting renewable energy integration and helping to deliver value for consumers.

We're currently looking for an experienced SHE Assurance Specialist professional to join the National Grid Ventures Interconnectors team on a 12 month contract to provide maternity cover and support the delivery of key Safety, Health and Environmental priorities across the business.

In this role, you'll play a critical part in ensuring our SHE Management System (SHEMS) continues to be effectively implemented and embedded across our operations. Working closely with operational teams, site leadership, project and construction stakeholders, and the wider SHE function, you'll help translate SHE requirements into practical actions that support safe, compliant and efficient operations.

You'll lead 2nd line assurance activities across the Interconnectors portfolio, helping to identify trends, risks and improvement opportunities, while ensuring findings are effectively tracked through to completion. The role will also support the implementation of management system changes, driving engagement and understanding across the business to ensure new standards and procedures are successfully adopted.

This is an excellent opportunity to influence how SHE standards are embedded in practice, work across a diverse range of operational and project activities, and make a meaningful contribution during a key period of change and continuous improvement. The role is hybrid with our base office in Warwick so we'd expect to see you at least twice a week in the office.

What you'll do:

  • Deliver 2nd line SHE Assurance activities across the NGV Interconnectors portfolio, with a focus on high-risk activities and newly introduced standards.
  • Support the implementation and embedding of SHE Management System changes across operational teams and sites.
  • Review internal audit, inspection and assurance findings to identify trends, risks and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Maintain action trackers and governance processes to ensure findings, risks and improvement activities are effectively managed and driven to completion.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders across Operations, Projects, Construction and the wider SHE community to support key business priorities.
  • Producing clear reports, communications and management updates to support decision making and performance improvement.

What you'll need:

  • Knowledge of SHE management systems, safety and environmental standards, and operational controls.
  • Experience supporting project delivery, change management and stakeholder engagement.
  • An understanding of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 principles and their practical application.
  • Strong planning, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A NEBOSH qualification, IOSH membership, or equivalent SHE experience.

It would be great if you also had:

  • Knowledge of NGV Interconnectors SHEMS arrangements and operational activities.
  • Experience using Cority, Power BI, SharePoint, or similar reporting and assurance systems.
  • Internal auditing, management systems or project management experience.

This is an excellent opportunity to broaden your experience across a diverse operational portfolio, influence how SHE standards are embedded in practice, and make a meaningful contribution to National Grid Ventures during a significant period of change and improvement.

What you'll get:

  • A competitive salary between £48,374.00 -£57,012.50– dependent on capability.
  • Bonus based on personal and company performance.
  • Competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
  • Share incentive plan.
  • Salary sacrifice car.
  • Technology schemes.
  • Support via employee assistance lines.
  • Matched charity giving to name a few.
