As a Protection & Control Engineer, you’ll play a critical role in the design and delivery of HVDC converter stations, leading the specification and assurance of protection schemes and control systems. Working as part of a highly specialist engineering team, you’ll collaborate with OEMs, system operators, and internal experts to ensure robust, reliable, and compliant solutions that meet Grid Code requirements. This is an excellent opportunity for both experienced engineers and those looking to develop deep technical expertise in HVDC technology. This role is primarily based at our NGV offices in Warwick, with regular UK and international travel, including site visits during key project phases.

What you’ll do:

  • Specify and review protection and control system functionality for HVDC converter stations
  • Work with OEMs to ensure compliance with Grid Code requirements and internal standards
  • Support design reviews, resolving technical queries and reviewing design submissions
  • Support technical interfaces at grid connection points
  • Provide onsite support for FAT, SAT, and installation activities
  • Support integration of third-party systems into OEM control systems
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including civil and cable engineering
  • Contribute to technical input during tender assessments

What you’ll need:

  • Experience in infrastructure or energy projects, delivering high-quality outputs to deadlines
  • Strong understanding of the power industry
  • Knowledge of HVDC control and protection systems (or strong desire to develop expertise)
  • Technical understanding of converter station components
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and make sound technical decisions

What you’ll get:

A competitive salary between £61,416.00 - £72,671.00 per annum – dependent on capability. As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
