About the role

National Grid is at the heart of changes as the energy system evolves toward net zero. This senior analyst role will drive the development of electricity demand modelling and analysis for GB and EU power markets. The role is based out of Warwick or Strand, London, with a hybrid working policy.

Group Strategy, Innovation and Market Analytics (SIMA) leads on high‑level strategic questions for National Grid and external stakeholders. The analyst will navigate future pathways, conduct in‑depth market analyses, model scenarios, quantify risks and opportunities, and provide trusted insight to senior stakeholders.

What you'll do

  • Lead and continuously evolve GB electricity demand modelling, owning core assumptions and methodologies to ensure they remain robust, transparent, and aligned with emerging system trends and business needs.
  • Translate macro drivers of demand growth into actionable modelling insights, including industrial electrification, transport, domestic heating, data centres, and flexible demand, with clear articulation of impacts on load growth, profiles, and system peaks.
  • Design, develop, and maintain advanced data tools and dashboards, using sophisticated analytics, machine learning and statistical techniques to enable scalable, insight‑led decision making across the business.
  • Deliver clear, decision‑focused insights to senior stakeholders, synthesising complex market and modelling outputs into concise narratives that inform strategy, investment cases, and scenario development.
  • Stay at the forefront of industry, policy, and technology developments, proactively identifying and quantifying the impact of decarbonisation trends on long‑term demand and electricity networks.
  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of Market Analytics’ in‑house models for both GB and EU power markets, ensuring fitness‑for‑purpose across multiple use cases and clearly communicating model assumptions, limitations, and outputs.
  • Drive cross‑functional collaboration across National Grid, working closely with Group Strategy, M&A, Business Development, Corporate Affairs and operational teams to provide high‑impact analysis, challenge assumptions and shape business outcomes.
  • Develop deeper spatial and sectoral insights, including zonal demand views, sector‑specific analysis and integration with generation trends, enhancing the granularity and relevance of modelling outputs.
  • Mentor and develop junior analysts, building team capability in modelling, insight generation and stakeholder engagement, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing.

About you

  • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships and work collaboratively across teams to challenge assumptions, drive alignment and deliver high‑impact outcomes.
  • Proven ability to translate complex modelling outputs into clear, decision‑ready insights, articulating implications for strategy, scenarios and investment cases to senior stakeholders.
  • Highly self‑motivated, proactive and intellectually curious, with a track record of taking ownership, identifying opportunities and driving improvements independently.
  • Strong understanding of GB and/or European energy markets, with experience in electricity demand drivers and decarbonisation trends; deep expertise in energy demand modelling would be highly advantageous.
  • Good knowledge of emerging demand and generation trends, including electrification (heat pumps, transport), embedded generation (solar), storage and flexible demand, and their impact on load profiles and system dynamics would be preferred.
  • Excellent quantitative, analytical and modelling skills, with experience working with large datasets and applying statistical or advanced analytical techniques (Python, Excel VBA skills preferred).
  • Familiarity with power market modelling tools (PLEXOS, Aurora, BID3) and an appreciation of how modelling supports scenario development, forecasting and commercial decision‑making would be preferred.
  • Experience in data visualisation and insight communication, using tools such as Power BI (or similar), to develop clear, scalable dashboards and analytical outputs.
