We’re looking for a passionate Senior Manager Executive Communications to join our Group Corporate Communications team! The Senior Manager of Executive Communications will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic initiatives to enhance National Grid’s executive visibility and reputation. This role will focus on ensuring consistent and effective communication across all channels, engaging with internal and external stakeholders, and acting as an authoritative voice for National Grid’s executive communications. This role is based out of our Strand office, and we’d hope to see you at least two days per week but you’re welcome to be in the office more often if that would work best for you. We’re happy to discuss any additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements that you feel could help to make this job work for you!
What You’ll Do
- Develop and lead the overarching executive communications strategy that aligns with National Grid’s corporate objectives, purpose, vision, and values.
- Support the VP of Communications in providing strategic and tactical advice to senior leadership, ensuring that executive communications initiatives are proactive, coordinated, and aligned with corporate messaging.
- Collaborate with colleagues across Corporate Affairs’ Centers of Excellence (including the wider Communications & Brand team, Public Affairs & Policy, and Social Impact & Community Engagement) and leadership across Business Units to develop integrated executive communications strategies and plans.
- Identify and seize on proactive thought leadership opportunities (media, events) that enhance the visibility of National Grid’s leadership and effectively build its reputation with desired stakeholders.
- Lead the creation and dissemination of high-quality content, including speeches, presentations, press releases, briefings, and activations on social channels, and partner with internal communications in advocating for National Grid’s strategic positioning, ensuring strategic alignment across the business.
- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, including media representatives, industry partners, and community leaders, to enhance the effectiveness of executive communications.
- Monitor and analyse media coverage, industry trends, and public sentiment to inform executive communications strategies and adjust approaches as necessary.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing across teams to enhance the effectiveness of executive communications initiatives.
- Stay abreast of trends in corporate communications and media relations best practices, bringing in new thinking to enhance National Grid’s executive communications efforts.
- This position will also cover storms/emergency responses and may be required to attend UK emergency response team meetings/be included in an on-call rota out of hours as required/during a crisis.
What You’ll Have
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification, and communications and public relations experience.
- Extensive experience in executive communications, corporate communications, or public relations, preferably within the energy, utilities, or broader technology corporate sectors.
- Strong understanding of communication strategies, stakeholder engagement, and best practices in reputation management.
- Proven ability to develop and execute successful communications strategies that enhance executive visibility and influence public perception.
- Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence key stakeholders, including senior leadership.
- Experience in crisis communications and managing communications during high-pressure situations.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and familiarity with digital communication tools and platforms.
