Team Finance Business Unit Finance and Enterprise Business Services Requisition No. 12288 City Bristol, GB, BS2 0TB Date posted 13 October 2026

The Investment Accountant is responsible for managing project finances across the region, supporting accurate cost allocation, processing journal entries, and assisting with project closure reviews. The role provides a key finance presence in the region, working closely with operational teams and project managers to maintain the integrity of investment accounting records.

This role will be based out of Bristol Avonbank, and we’d hope to see you at least two days per week but you’re welcome to be in the office more often if that would work best for you. We’re happy to discuss any additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements that you feel could help to make this job work for you!

What You’ll Do

  • Maintain project financial records across the regional portfolio, ensuring accuracy and completeness throughout the project lifecycle (initiation to closure).
  • Monitor work-in-progress balances and support the timely clearance of accruals, including WI accruals, plant accruals and GRNI.
  • Process cost transfers between projects where required, ensuring costs are allocated in line with Finance policy.
  • Review and process journal requests submitted via the SharePoint template, ensuring entries are accurate and fully supported, liaising with submitters where clarification is needed, and meeting period-end deadlines (rejection/approval process is automated).
  • Review project closures completed in E5, confirming costs are correctly allocated and Crown system status is verified, flagging discrepancies for resolution and supporting the batch closure process. Ownership of the closure decision remains with the business.
  • Support the adhoc reopening of projects, confirming the basis with operational and project management contacts and processing requests in E5 once authorisation is received.
  • Act as the primary Investment Accounting point of contact for the region: build strong relationships with Operations Directors, Heads of Operations and Project Managers, respond to finance queries promptly (escalating to the Investment Accounting Manager where appropriate), and travel to local depots for in-person support when needed.
  • Complete all period-end tasks in line with the month-end timetable (accruals, cost transfers and reconciliations) and provide accurate outputs to Financial Business Partners to support variance analysis. Interpretation, challenge and presentation of results to operational leadership sits with the Financial Business Partner team.

What You’ll Have

  • Fully Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA etc).
  • Experience in a finance or accounting role, ideally within a capital-intensive or project-based environment.
  • Familiarity with project accounting concepts including accruals, cost transfers, and work-in-progress.
  • Competent user of finance systems; experience of E5 or equivalent ERP systems is advantageous.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks to defined deadlines.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
