Job Purpose

In this dynamic position, you will be challenged to work with a diverse array of cutting‑edge technologies as we strive to upgrade our electricity transmission system in alignment with our ambitious Net Zero commitments. Your expertise will ensure that our designs not only meet rigorous specifications but also embody the highest standards of functionality and reliability. You will support project teams in ensuring that contractors adhere to our established requirements, guaranteeing that every project is executed flawlessly. Your contributions will be instrumental in driving forward our mission to deliver a secure and sustainable electricity supply that empowers the transition to green energy.

What you'll do

  • Specify, assess, and assure equipment and designs for use on the electricity transmission system.
  • Undertake technical assurance reviews of designs from suppliers and contractors at each project stage, ensuring compliance with National Grid standards and procedures to secure a reliable electricity supply that drives green energy forward.
  • Collaborate with a technical team of experts in OHL and HV cables that work across England and Wales throughout the entire project lifecycle, including optioneering, development, tendering, delivery, commissioning and operation.
  • Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (where applicable).
  • Share your knowledge and expertise by delivering training to junior team members, mentoring, and supporting the wider team.

About you

  • HND or degree in electrical engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Background in either overhead lines or cables is essential, with authorisations to our internal processes being a significant advantage.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in design activities, routing & siting considerations, installation and writing and reviewing technical documentation for OHL or HV cable systems.
  • For Lead positions, we expect candidates to have extensive experience and knowledge, potentially from working with consultants, contractors or other companies that partner with or for National Grid.
  • Ability to share knowledge and expertise for coaching and mentoring.
  • Willingness to learn and apply new processes and procedures.
  • A valid driving licence that permits you to drive in the UK and the flexibility to travel when necessary.

What you'll get

A competitive salary around £55,000 - £75,000 – dependent on capability. As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
