An opportunity is available for Fleet Workshop Team Leader based at our Hinckley depot. You’ll play a key role in creating a safe, compliant and high‑performing workshop environment. You’ll lead and develop a team that delivers efficient Vehicle Maintenance Unit (VMU) operations, ensuring all work meets strict regulatory standards. Responsible for the maintenance and availability of HGVs, LCVs, trailers and plant equipment, you’ll make sure every asset is safe, reliable and cost‑effective through a mixture of hands‑on mechanical and office‑based activities while supporting operational needs with minimal downtime. Working closely with the Regional Fleet Manager, you’ll act as the vital link between the Fleet team and Field Operations – driving clear communication, aligned priorities and swift resolution of vehicle‑related issues.
Main Responsibilities
- Lead and develop regional VMU team and individuals to drive operational excellence.
- Ensure the efficient and cost‑effective operation of the workshop.
- Manage workshop expenditure in line with Op‑Ex budgets, ensuring cost‑effective delivery.
- Oversee workshop compliance, safety, and ISO accreditation activities.
- Issue, check and complete documentation relating to workshop activities.
- Hold regular team meetings and represent the team locally in matters concerning workshop activities.
- Carry out annual Performance Development Reviews of the team.
- Monitor sickness absence and conduct return‑to‑work interviews; approve annual leave requests.
- Liaise with other departments, drivers, external suppliers and customers.
- Manage the accident damage process.
- Undertake regular stock checking of parts, tools and equipment.
- Set priorities and programme the team’s work.
Qualifications and Experience
- Considerable mechanical experience with proven experience in leading or managing workshop operations in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong understanding of fleet regulations and compliance.
- Confidence using fleet management systems for maintenance records, reporting and accessing technical information.
- Clear, effective communication skills and strong organisational ability.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and high workloads, ensuring essential fleet assets are returned to service quickly and safely.
- NVQ/IMI level 2 or 3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
- Full driving licence (Class C desirable).
- IRTEC Licensed.
- IMI Electric Vehicle Maintenance System Repair and Replacement.
- ADAS Trained.
- Air Conditioning F‑Gas Certified.
- IOSH Certified.
Evidence of your qualifications will be required prior to appointment.
