About The Company
National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) owns and operates the electricity distribution systems across the Midlands, the Southwest of England and South Wales, serving more than 8 million people.
Job Introduction
This grade 6 role involves designing, costing and quoting high‑voltage network projects, working closely with engineers to construct, reinforce, alter and replace network assets. The role demands strong communication, resilience, and an ability to prioritise workload effectively.
Main Responsibilities
- Hands‑on design of project schemes for the high‑voltage network
- Prepare capital projects and coordinate with off‑site stakeholders
- Design schemes in line with Engineering Directives
- Create plans, schematics, wayleaves, notices, material schedules, terms, quotations and agreements
- Liaise with Grade 7 Network Planner to satisfy network requirements
- Determine scope, methodology and cost for projects, and approve work plans
- Resolve customer complaints and maintain high service quality
- Set up scheme files and close projects upon completion
- Monitor project costs, identify variances, and implement corrective action
- Visit sites and work from developer plans
Qualifications & Experience
Applicants must possess the following:
- English and Mathematics GCSE Grade C/Level 4 or better, or Functional Skills Level 2 or above
- Level 2 City & Guilds 2339 qualification (or equivalent)
- Evidence of a Level 3 Electrical Power Engineering qualification, or be willing to undertake the course if not yet completed
- Full UK driving licence required for site visits
- Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate work with clear explanations
- Experience with iPads, computers and network planning software is essential
- Confidence and ability to reach required standards with appropriate training, even if all skills are not currently possessed
