Job Introduction
Are you a skilled and reliable vehicle mechanic/fleet technician seeking a new opportunity? Come and join us and be part of the Operations Support Transport Team. We have two roles available one based at our Brecon garage and one in Church Village, Pontypridd. You will be working 37 hours per week Monday to Friday, playing a vital role in maintaining the vehicle fleet. You will work on a variety of specialist vehicles ensuring they are fit for purpose and ready to support our engineers in the field through effective inspection, maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair.
Main Responsibilities
- Maintaining the fleet safely, efficiently, and in compliance with NGED, regulatory, and manufacturer requirements, ensuring vehicles are available to support core business operations.
- Working safely and efficiently at all times, in line with NGED policies and defined safe systems of work.
- Effective inspection, maintenance, fault diagnosis, and repair (minimising vehicle downtime).
- Supporting legal compliance and contributing to cost effective fleet operations.
- Carry out routine servicing, repair and maintenance to DVSA and manufacturer’s standards for heavy goods vehicles, light commercial vehicles, trailers, plant and associated ancillary equipment.
- Prepare and present vehicles for annual testing and inspections.
- Evaluate the cost-effectiveness of repairs versus replacement for routine service items.
- Road test vehicles and accurately diagnose mechanical and electrical faults.
- Inspect, service and maintain workshop tools and equipment that are not covered by service contracts.
- Order replacement parts and manage stock levels as required.
- Recommend corrective or remedial actions to the Workshop Controller.
- Ensure a high standard of workmanship and complete all associated repair and maintenance documentation accurately.
- Fabrication to vehicles, accessories and components as needed.
- Prepare vehicles for disposal and salvage usable equipment.
- Identify improvement opportunities and put forward constructive suggestions.
- Promote a positive and professional image of the team at all times.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with Health and Safety requirements for yourself, colleagues and the Company.
- Work in line with established team standards, individual responsibilities and task‑specific procedures.
- Maintain awareness of relevant legislation relating to vehicle repair, maintenance and condition.
- Undertake ongoing training and self‑development to keep up to date with technological advancements relevant to the role.
The Ideal Candidate
You will be a skilled and experienced vehicle mechanic/fleet technician, have the ability to perform routine preventative maintenance and diagnose more complex repairs. Competent with IT systems for updating vehicle records, reporting, and accessing technical information, and skilled in using tools and diagnostic equipment including welding and fabrication. Alongside a good approach to customer service you will have strong team‑working skills with the ability to adapt to new technologies and work practices. Be capable to manage urgent workloads in time‑critical environments to keep essential fleet vehicles operational.
Along with the above skills you will have the following qualifications/training:
- NVQ/IMI level 2 or 3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or equivalent.
- A full driving licence (Class C preferred).
- IRTEC IMI Electric Vehicle Maintenance System Repair and Replacement.
- ADAS Training.
- Air Conditioned F‑Gas Certified.
- IOSH Certified.
- Main Dealer Manufacturing Training.
There may be occasions where you will be working at other local depots, therefore a flexible approach is required. Evidence of your qualifications will be required prior to appointment.
