The Technical Training Officer will create, manage and lead training pathways and materials that demonstrably provide a consistent, thorough and timely training experience for new starters into any role within our National Gas System Operations Energy Delivery team, ensuring business requirements and compliance are delivered.

  • Key accountabilities
  • Lead and define the training scoping, planning and execution of complex processes, providing assurance that training meets the agreed business requirements and complies with regulatory and commercial obligations.
  • Drive delivery of a revised training strategy, agreeing the priority roles to pilot the new approach with, organising and delivering the pilot and applying the learning to all roles within Energy Delivery.
  • Reduce the lead time for training in all areas where it is currently in excess of a year, without reducing the knowledge and experience of the individuals being trained.
  • Proactively identify and lead the continuous review, development and enhancement of training tools, processes, procedures and systems.
  • Produce and maintain training information and reports for a wide range of internal audiences.

This requires a deep understanding of complex data sets and the ability to translate that complexity into clear, meaningful reports and visualisations that support effective decision making and the required outcomes from the training scenarios.

  • Internal point of contact, providing expert advice and education on the training approaches needed in relation to the licence and code to internal teams and senior leadership.
  • Implement timely and accurate business planning forecasts that capture training needs, linking in with strategic workforce planning activities to ensure a consistent approach.
  • Undertake role(s) within the Network Emergency Management Team (NEMT) which will involve undergoing training and taking part in regular internal and external exercises and being called upon to fulfil this role in the event of an incident or emergency on the gas network.

About you

  • Understanding of National Gas Transmission’s role and its regulatory and commercial obligations, in particular a strong knowledge of the obligations undertaken by the System Operator within National Gas Transmission.
  • Knowledge of our core assets and operations is essential for this role, which will be developed as a subject matter expert in this area.
  • Significant experience of developing training material, ideally in accordance with commercial and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience of working with a range of customers and stakeholders on technical and compliance matters within a commercial and operational environment.
  • A logical, creative and practical approach to problem solving with the ability to structure complex problems into material that can be understood by all.
  • Comfortable working autonomously and making informed decisions to move work forward.
  • Displays intellectual curiosity and a strong aptitude for understanding how things work, driving continuous improvement in ways of working.
  • Educated to HND / degree level (or significant experience)
  • Able to work effectively across virtual and cross‑functional teams.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills for engaging with a wide range of stakeholders including senior leadership teams.
  • Significant experience of collaborating with external service providers.
  • Strong track record of working to demanding timescales whilst maintaining a high standard of performance.
