The Market Charging and Revenue Strategy Manager plays a critical role in supporting both the long‑term and short‑term gas market priorities of National Gas Transmission (NGT). You will shape and develop future market commercial frameworks, lead the progression of Network Code (UNC) Modifications, drive Licence and regulatory framework changes, and ensure alignment with NGT's strategic objectives to deliver value for customers and maintain a resilient gas system.
A core part of the role is leadership of the charging function, responsible for calculating transportation charges and evolving the framework to ensure the effective recovery of National Gas's Regulated Allowed Revenues. This includes taking ownership of the forecasting of charges, monitoring revenue recovery performance, and steering proactive interventions where required.
Key accountabilities:
- Managing a high‑performing team of subject‑matter experts, providing clear direction, coaching, and development opportunities.
- Strategic oversight of team activities, ensuring robust analysis, accurate forecasting, and high‑quality outputs that inform regulatory, commercial, and financial decision-making across the business.
- Engaging with stakeholders across government, regulators, network operators, and customers.
- Assessing changes across the gas industry including regulatory reform, market evolution, and shifts in supply and demand.
- Articulating the commercial impacts on transportation revenue, charging structures, and wider market frameworks.
- Influencing the future direction of NGT's commercial strategy by identifying how charging design and revenue mechanisms can incentivise behaviours that maintain system resilience and support the transition to a secure, affordable, and decarbonising energy system.
You will be responsible for:
- Setting, publishing, and monitoring the performance of the National Gas Transmission systems transportation charges to recover National Gas's allowed revenues and be in line with all Uniform Network Code (UNC) and licence obligations (c.£1.5bn per annum).
- Leading initiating and responding to changes to the UNC, focusing on licence obligations & industry, regulatory, government developments and customer and stakeholder feedback.
- Acting as a focal point on gas transportation pricing, providing insight, advice and support on industry developments internally and externally.
About you:
- This position requires a strategic thinker, with strong analytical background and financial acumen, proven management experience, and excellent stakeholder management skills.
- Degree or professional qualification in a relevant field.
- Knowledge of gas or energy systems would be well regarded – or the drive, interest and aptitude to learn and understand a new area quickly.
- Proven ability to use data‑driven insights to build persuasive narratives that shape decisions across internal and external audiences.
- Experience in commercial, regulatory or finance environments, with sound risk management and commercial insight.
- Managing a team that delivers focused analytical or numerical assessments.
- Analytically strong, able to interpret complex data, overlay commercial and regulatory insight, and deliver clear, impactful analysis that informs decisions and engages stakeholders.
- Outstanding stakeholder management with proven ability to build and lead key relationships externally within the gas industry, as well as internally at all levels.
- Credible, professional and influential, with a passion for driving the UK's net zero transition.
