The Energy Development Officer plays a key role within the Energy Balancing team, shaping and delivering regulatory and commercial frameworks that support compliant, effective operations and the transition to net zero. You will drive improvements across UK and EU gas arrangements, ensure systems and processes remain fit for purpose, and deputise for the Settlement Officer, supporting the leadership of a team of Settlement Analysts. About the role

In this role, you will:

  • Design and deliver operational processes and system requirements to ensure compliance with evolving Energy Balancing obligations.
  • Lead end-to-end User Acceptance Testing (UAT), assuring changes meet business, regulatory and commercial requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement of Energy Balancing tools, systems and processes.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to support the evolution of the energy regime and transition to net zero.
  • Produce clear, insight-driven reports and dashboards from complex data to inform decision-making.
  • Act as a subject matter expert, providing guidance on Energy Balancing rules, codes and frameworks to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support accurate financial and regulatory reporting, including forecasting and planning.
  • Contribute to the Network Emergency Management Team, including training, exercises and incident response.
  • Collaborate across teams to provide data supporting commercial strategy and regulatory reporting.
About you

Understanding of National Gas Transmission’s regulatory and commercial obligations. Quick learner with strong analytical capability. Experience working with stakeholders on technical or compliance matters. Ability to analyse complex systems and ensure regulatory alignment. Strong problem‑solving skills with a structured, pragmatic approach. Comfortable working independently and driving progress. Proactive, curious and focused on continuous improvement. Effective communicator, able to engage and influence stakeholders.
