About us

At National Gas, the work we do matters. As Britain's national gas network, we help keep the lights on, businesses running, and homes warm by maintaining the critical infrastructure that transports gas across Great Britain. While providing the energy security Britain relies on today, we're also helping transform the network for a clean energy future. Join us and help secure Britain's energy.

About the role

If you're someone who loves variety, thrives on being at the centre of the action and enjoys building relationships with people at every level of a business, this could be the opportunity you've been looking for. We're looking for a highly organised and proactive Business & Leadership Support Administrator to support the Head of NGS and wider NGS leadership team. This isn't a role where you'll spend every day filing documents and booking meetings. One minute you'll be helping prepare business updates for senior leaders. The next you'll be coordinating travel, supporting team priorities, managing important documentation, or helping solve a last-minute challenge. No two days are quite the same. You'll become a trusted adviser, organiser, and go-to person for the leadership team, helping everything run smoothly behind the scenes while keeping a sense of humour when things get busy.

Why this role matters

Behind every successful leadership team is someone who keeps things moving. National Gas Services (NGS) provides specialist engineering, maintenance and operational services that support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of Britain's gas transmission network. Working at the heart of the function, you'll gain exposure to a wide range of operational, technical, and business activities, giving you a unique insight into a part of the organisation that helps keep critical national infrastructure running. As the Head of NGS and wider leadership team focus on delivering business priorities, you'll provide the coordination and support that helps them operate effectively. Whether that's managing key information, coordinating activities or keeping priorities on track, you'll have a direct impact on how the function performs. You'll build relationships with colleagues and stakeholders across technical, operational, and business teams, as well as senior leaders from across the organisation.

What you'll be doing

  • Supporting the Head of NGS and wider leadership team with day-to-day business coordination and administrative support
  • Acting as a key point of contact for documentation, information management, and business processes
  • Preparing, maintaining, and coordinating important business and quality documentation
  • Managing records and information within company systems, ensuring everything is accurate, accessible, and up to date
  • Coordinating documentation and communications with internal teams, suppliers, contractors, and customers
  • Raising purchase orders and supporting procurement activities in line with business processes
  • Helping coordinate travel, training, equipment, and other logistical requirements
  • Supporting reporting, performance metrics, and management updates
  • Supporting the preparation of leadership presentations, reports, and management information
  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes and helping the team work more efficiently

What you'll bring

We're looking for someone who can combine excellent organisation with great people skills. You'll be confident managing multiple priorities, comfortable working with senior stakeholders and able to adapt quickly when plans change. You'll enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and take pride in keeping everything running smoothly.

Essential

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing demands
  • Experience coordinating documentation, records, information, or business processes
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and SharePoint
  • Experience using business systems and databases to manage information effectively
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work accurately with complex information
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels and challenge constructively where appropriate
  • A resilient and adaptable approach, with the ability to remain calm when priorities change or pressure increases
  • A proactive mindset with the ability to work independently, take ownership, solve problems, and get stuck in
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable

  • Experience supporting senior leaders or leadership teams
  • Experience supporting engineering, operational, technical, or project-based teams
  • Experience within regulated, infrastructure, utility, or engineering environments
  • Knowledge of document control principles, quality assurance processes, or quality management systems
  • Experience coordinating travel, training, team activities, or wider business support functions

What we offer

  • Market-leading double-match pension (up to 12% company contribution)
  • Annual performance bonus up to 6%
  • Access to the Tusker salary sacrifice car scheme
  • 26 days holiday (plus statutory holidays)
  • 10x salary life assurance and income protection
  • Flexible benefits including healthcare, dental, and technology options
  • Family-friendly policies, wellbeing support, and professional development opportunities

Inclusive recruitment

We're building a workforce that reflects the communities we serve, championing diversity, and creating an inclusive workplace where everyone is valued for their unique contribution. We support reasonable adjustments throughout the recruitment process and beyond. National Gas is a Disability Confident employer and signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant.
