This is a hybrid role, typically working four days a week on site at Bacton and one day from the Peterborough office, with flexibility for home working where appropriate.

About the role

From early planning through to final handover, this is a role where you’ll be right in the mix. We’re looking for a Quantity Surveyor with strong cost management leadership skills and excellent presentation ability, who enjoys variety, collaboration, and seeing their work make a real difference on site. Based at Bacton Gas Terminal, you’ll be working at one of the UK’s most important energy hubs - right at the heart of nationally significant infrastructure projects.

What you'll be doing

  • Working alongside Project Managers to support the commercial and contractual side of their projects
  • Managing NEC contracts and helping teams apply them clearly and practically on site
  • Keeping costs under control through forecasting, cost tracking and good commercial judgement
  • Supporting tender reviews, contractor negotiations and contract awards
  • Managing variations and compensation events as projects evolve
  • Stepping in to help resolve commercial issues or disputes when they come up
  • Supporting risk management and making sure emerging risks are understood and recorded
  • Producing clear, straightforward reports that help people make good decisions
  • Spotting opportunities to improve how things are done and add value
  • Keeping commercial and financial records accurate and up to date
  • Supporting and mentoring other QS's and Junior QS's in the team

About you

You’ll be an experienced Quantity Surveyor who enjoys being close to delivery and part of a hands-on project team. You’re comfortable with contracts, confident working with contractors, and practical in how you tackle issues. Organised, approachable and collaborative, you’re also happy sharing your experience and supporting others to grow.

Key requirements & experience

  • Experience working as a QS within a construction or infrastructure environment
  • A good working knowledge of NEC contracts, ideally NEC 3 & 4 (Options A, C and E)
  • Experience managing costs, forecasts and commercial records across project delivery
  • Confidence handling variations, compensation events and tender activity
  • An understanding of risk management and commercial controls
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to produce accurate, well-structured reports
  • A collaborative team player, with the ability to provide commercial leadership and positively influence stakeholders
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Experience within utilities or large, regulated infrastructure projects
  • Knowledge of NEC Two Stage ECIRICS or CICES chartered (or working towards)
  • A degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
  • Experience mentoring or supporting other QS professionals

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
