About The Role
Joining us as the Environmental Specialist for the East region, you’ll be the go‑to expert for embedding safe, sustainable, and compliant ways of working across our operational and project activities. You’ll help safeguard people, communities, and local ecosystems by providing practical guidance, proactive oversight, and specialist knowledge. Your work will make a real impact on safety performance, environmental protection, and long‑term sustainability across the region.
What you’ll be doing:
- Monitoring site operations and projects to ensure compliance with safety and environmental requirements
- Carrying out inspections, audits, and joint safety/environmental risk assessments
- Supporting incident investigations and driving corrective and preventive actions
- Ensuring activities comply with environmental permits, consents, and applicable legislation
- Monitoring emissions, noise, vibration, water quality and other environmental indicators during construction
- Implementing pollution prevention controls, including spill response and dust mitigation measures
- Supporting responsible waste management, hazardous waste compliance, and resource efficiency
- Contributing to biodiversity protection, ecological surveys, and mitigation on or near sensitive sites
- Delivering safety and environmental inductions, toolbox talks, and awareness campaigns
- Supporting emergency response planning and readiness
- Maintaining accurate records and contributing to HSE reporting, analysis, and continuous improvement
About You

Essential Key requirements & experience:
- Experience carrying out safety and environmental risk assessments, site inspections, audits, and incident investigations
- Knowledge of relevant safety and environmental legislation, including CDM, PUWER, LOLER, environmental permits, and pollution prevention controls
- Competence in permit to work systems and implementing effective control measures for high‑risk activities
- Experience in waste management (segregation, hazardous waste compliance, waste hierarchy) and supporting biodiversity or ecological protection on site
- Ability to maintain accurate HSE records, analyse trends, and contribute to performance reporting
- Familiarity with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with confidence delivering training, briefings, and toolbox talks
- Experience in a safety, environmental, or HSE role within high‑hazard or construction environments
- Experience working with regulators and managing compliance obligations
- NEBOSH General Certificate, NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate, and ISO 14001 auditor training (or willingness to obtain)
- Full UK car driving licence
Desirable:
- Experience supporting emergency response planning
- Background in gas infrastructure or utilities
- Experience contributing to behavioural safety or sustainability initiatives
- Additional safety or environmental auditing qualifications
