About the role

This is a role where you can make a real difference, build strong relationships, and keep lots of plates spinning - without dropping them. As a People & Recruitment Advisor, you'll be the go-to for all things people and hiring across your business area. One minute you'll be supporting managers with HR advice, the next you'll be in full recruiter mode, managing end-to-end hiring (advert to offer) through an applicant tracking system.

You'll work closely with the Regional People Lead as part of a small team for the Scotland and North region, so while you'll have plenty of autonomy, you'll also be supported and connected. You'll stay closely linked with wider People colleagues and Centres of Excellence, drawing on their expertise to deliver great outcomes. It's a role with variety, pace, and the occasional curveball - so being able to switch hats quickly, stay calm, and keep things on track is key.

What you'll be doing

  • Manage end-to-end recruitment for staff roles, delivering a smooth, engaging experience for candidates and hiring managers
  • Write and tailor job adverts that actually attract the right people
  • Provide practical, risk-based HR advice to managers on a range of people matters, including employee relations
  • Support delivery of the people plan and key initiatives (e.g. DEI, EVP, performance cycles)
  • Spot trends in data and feedback, helping shape smarter decisions
  • Build talent pipelines and get involved in early careers activity (schools, colleges, careers fairs)
  • Ensure policies and processes are followed while still keeping things human and practical
  • Work closely with central People and Talent teams to continuously improve how things are done
  • Build strong, trusted relationships across your business area (including Trade Union reps where relevant)
  • Juggle priorities, adapt quickly, and deal with whatever lands on your desk - big or small

About you

You're someone who genuinely enjoys the people side of HR but also likes getting stuck into recruitment. You're organised, resilient, and able to take things in your stride - even when things feel a bit chaotic or unpredictable. You don't get flustered easily, you've got a good sense of perspective (and humour helps), and you're happy to roll up your sleeves to get things sorted (whether it's a complex case or something a bit more unexpected). Most importantly, you care about doing the right thing and giving people a great experience.

Key requirements & experience

  • HR/People background with some hands-on end-to-end recruitment experience (using an ATS)
  • Experience giving clear, practical HR advice across people matters, including employee relations
  • Good understanding of HR processes, policies, and employment law
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships quickly
  • Calm under pressure, adaptable, and able to manage shifting priorities
  • Comfortable working with data and handling sensitive information
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to support wider People initiatives
  • Willing to travel across your business area
  • Full UK driving licence
  • CIPD qualified or working towards
  • Degree or equivalent
  • Exposure to wider people initiatives (e.g. DEI, EVP, early careers)
  • Experience working in a Trade Union environment

What we offer

  • Competitive salary and annual performance bonus
  • Double-match pension scheme (max. company contribution 12%)
  • Generous holiday allowance (26 days + bank holidays)
  • Flexible benefit scheme, inc. private healthcare, dental insurance, technology plans, and more
  • Financial protection with 10x salary death in service and financial support if you're unable to work due to long-term illness or injury
  • Excellent family friendly provisions such as maternity, paternity, adoption, and shared parental leave
  • Professional development opportunities inc. financial support to help you cover the cost of professional membership subscriptions
  • Employee assistance programme offering free confidential professional counselling 24/7
  • Inclusive, supportive, and forward-thinking workplace
