This role requires you to be on site, 5 days a week. Some travel to other sites across the UK (including some overnight stays) will also be required.

About the role

As a Maintenance Craftsperson, you’ll play a key role in ensuring that all National Gas Services (NGS) operational plant, equipment, and associated items are maintained to industry standards and legal requirements. Your work will directly support the reliability and safety of our services across multiple UK locations, using both internal and external resources to deliver cost-effective maintenance solutions.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Manage and deliver maintenance and engineering activities on a wide range of NGS equipment, including recompression units, welding tools, generators, and mechanical systems.
  • Schedule and complete work orders in collaboration with the NGS Customer Operations Manager, Supervisors, and Maintenance Officer.
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are maintained, tested, and calibrated in line with legislative and safety standards.
  • Liaise with external vendors to coordinate servicing and repairs, including arranging equipment shipments when necessary.
  • Record and upload calibration certificates and maintain accurate documentation in SharePoint and other systems.
  • Provide monthly and year‑to‑date Management Information (MI) on performance and costs.
  • Maintain warehouse stock levels, process stock orders, and follow quality control procedures.
  • Support pressure systems inspection requirements (PSSR) and ensure all maintenance tasks are carried out safely and efficiently.
  • Act as the single point of contact for fleet notifications, including services, MOTs, and inspections.
  • Operate mobile plant and lifting equipment safely, and assist with loading/unloading and dispatching goods.

About you

You’ll be a proactive and organised individual who takes pride in delivering high‑quality maintenance work. You’ll be comfortable working independently and as part of a team, with a strong focus on safety, compliance, and continuous improvement. You’ll bring a collaborative mindset, excellent communication skills, and a willingness to travel to support sites across the UK.

Key requirements & experience:

  • BTEC National Certificate (or equivalent City & Guilds, NVQ/SVQ Level 3) in a mechanical or gas engineering discipline.
  • Time‑served apprenticeship (or other recognised training scheme/evidence of experience) in a mechanical discipline - desirable.
  • In‑depth technical knowledge of engineering maintenance practices and requirements.
  • Strong understanding of PUWER and LOLER regulations.
  • Familiarity with relevant codes of practice and engineering instructions.
  • Proven ability to work independently using manuals, training, and work orders.
  • Hands‑on experience maintaining tools and mechanical equipment.
  • Competence in working within Safe Systems of Work, including risk assessments.
  • Proficient in using computerised systems for maintenance records and data input.
  • Understanding of Health & Safety and discipline‑specific legislative requirements.
  • Evidence of competencies to support technical skills and experience.
  • Full UK car driving licence.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
