About the role
At National Gas, we're delivering some of the most critical investment programmes in the country and we're looking for a Head of Portfolio Performance to play a pivotal role in ensuring our investment portfolio delivers against its strategic, financial and regulatory commitments.
As Head of Portfolio Performance, you'll sit at the heart of National Gas's Enterprise Portfolio Management Office (EPMO), providing strategic and critical insights to support Executive and Board-level decision-making.

- What you'll be doing
- Providing a trusted view of portfolio performance across our investment programmes.
- Analysing portfolio performance to identify trends, risks, opportunities and areas requiring intervention.
- Challenging and assuring delivery performance across scope, schedule, cost and regulatory commitments.
- Partnering closely with Delivery Directorates, Regulatory and Finance to understand delivery challenges, align performance expectations and support the development of practical solutions that improve outcomes.
- Developing insightful executive reporting that translates complex data into clear, actionable recommendations.
- Supporting Executive and Board governance forums with robust analysis and decision support.
- Leading quarterly investment forecasting and providing strategic insight into future portfolio outcomes.
- Assessing performance against regulatory allowances and funding mechanisms, highlighting risks and optimisation opportunities.
- Leading key elements of National Gas's regulatory reporting and assurance activities.
- Managing relationships with Ofgem and coordinating performance discussions with external regulatory stakeholders.
- Driving continuous improvement through automation, analytics, visualisation tools and enhanced reporting practices.
- Building organisational capability in portfolio performance management, governance and data-driven decision making.
- Leading, developing and motivating a high-performing team while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.

Key requirements & experience
Essential
- Experience within portfolio management, programme management, PMO, performance management or business planning environments.
- Proven experience consolidating, analysing and interpreting complex data across large-scale investment portfolios.
- Strong ability to generate meaningful insights from performance information, including cost, schedule, scope, risk and delivery metrics.
- Experience presenting complex information in a concise and impactful way to senior stakeholders.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and build credibility at all levels of an organisation.
- Experience facilitating performance discussions and providing constructive challenge to improve outcomes.
- Demonstrated leadership experience with a track record of developing and motivating high-performing teams.
- Commitment to continuous improvement, collaboration and driving performance excellence.
Desirable
- Experience within a regulated industry such as energy, utilities, infrastructure, transport or water.
- Understanding of RIIO, Ofgem regulatory frameworks or similar regulatory environments.
- Background in management consulting, portfolio advisory, business transformation or operational excellence.
- Experience with predictive analytics, scenario modelling and risk-based forecasting methodologies.
- Knowledge of AI-enabled reporting, automation and advanced portfolio analytics.
