About The Role
To undertake installation, inspection, commissioning, operation, repair, maintenance and emergency response activities associated with Terminal, Compressor Station, Pipeline and AGI assets within a geographic zone of the national transmission system within discipline and competencies as required.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Carry out work safely for yourself and others, including issuing permits and setting up isolations according to Safe Control of Operations (SCO) procedures.
- Promote a team culture focused on safe working and full compliance with National Grid policies and procedures.
- Keep accurate records of site maintenance, assets, operations and SCO activities to meet policy and regulatory requirements.
- Support construction and commissioning of new assets on the gas transmission system and other projects.
- Identify when existing equipment needs to be replaced or upgraded.
- Contribute to minor design changes and provide technical support within your area of competence.
- Help develop, review and update emergency, security, safety, operational and environmental plans and procedures.
- Act as incident controller or site main controller during planned events and emergencies.
- Monitor and control site security and take part in standby rotas and occasional shift work.
- Protect the high-pressure pipeline system by monitoring third-party work, responding to aerial survey sightings, checking cathodic protection, and supporting in-line inspection programmes.
- Act as a competent person for routine and low-complexity non-routine operational procedures.
- Oversee and inspect contractor and working-party activities to ensure technical and safety standards are met.
About You
Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions. This means that your eligibility for certain roles may be affected by your place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and any residency you hold or have held.
Key Requirements And Experience
- Post holders will normally possess proven maintenance and operational knowledge and experience gained within a relevant Electrical engineering.
- Undertaking maintenance, fault diagnosis and rectification work within the Oil & Gas (or other similar Process) Industry within relevant discipline.
- Undertaking inspection work on equipment installed in hazardous areas.
- Operating, controlling and undertaking work within Safe Systems of Work.
- Appreciation of systems and equipment associated with other engineering disciplines within the Oil & Gas (or other similar Process) Industry.
- Understanding of relevant discipline Legislative Requirements.
- Understanding of Health & Safety Legislative Requirements.
- Operation and control of process plant and equipment.
- Possess relevant Training Certification and/or Evidence of Competencies to support knowledge and experience.
Essential qualifications:
- Time-served Apprenticeship (or other recognised Training Scheme) in a relevant Electrical engineering discipline.
- BTEC National Certificate (or equivalent City & Guilds, NVQ/SVQ Level 3) in relevant engineering discipline.
- Valid current driving licence.
Desirable qualifications:
- Electrical – Compex EX01 - 04 Hazardous Equipment, C&G 2391 Inspection & Testing, C&G 2377 PAT Testing, BS7671 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
- Instrumentation – Compex EX01 - 04 Hazardous Equipment.
