About the Role
You will be joining a dedicated 15-member team responsible for the critical gas transmission infrastructure across the West 5 region, encompassing the majority of the south west of England. This hands-on role involves the daily maintenance and operation of key assets, including the Lockerley Compressor Station, several Above Ground Installations (AGI’s), and over 600km of high-pressure pipeline. Key responsibilities include delivering routine maintenance, diligently overseeing third-party activities on our sites, and ensuring all work meets rigorous safety and quality standards. With a strong focus on safety, customer service, and commercial awareness, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and reliable delivery of gas across the national transmission system. Once suitable authorisations and training has been completed, you will join a one in four stand-by roster, for additional reward.
What You'll Be Doing
- Carry out installation, inspection, commissioning, repair, and maintenance of electrical and instrumentation systems
- Operate and maintain compressor stations, pipelines, and AGI assets
- Issue permits and manage isolations under the Safe Control of Operations procedures
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance and operational activities
- Support commissioning of new assets and contribute to minor design modifications
- Act as Incident Controller and Site Main Controller during planned and emergency situations
- Monitor third-party work and ensure pipeline protection
- Oversee contractor activities to ensure technical and safety compliance
About You
- A good team player with a positive outlook
- Proven experience in electrical, instrumentation, or control systems
- Strong understanding of hazardous area equipment and inspection standards
- Experience working within Safe Systems of Work
- Knowledge of Health & Safety and engineering legislation
- Ability to operate and control process plant and equipment
- High standards of safety, integrity, and professionalism
- Experience in HV is preferable but not essential
Key Requirements & Experience
Essential Qualifications:
- Time-served apprenticeship or recognised training scheme in Electrical, Instrumentation, Electronics, or Control Systems
- BTEC National Certificate or equivalent (City & Guilds, NVQ/SVQ Level 3)
- Valid UK driving licence
Desirable Certifications (depending on discipline):
- Electrical: Compex EX01–04, C&G 2391, C&G 2377, BS7671 18th Edition
- Instrumentation/DSEAR: Compex EX01–04
- Cyber: EC 62443
