We transport gas throughout Great Britain, repair and maintain gas pipelines, and manage the meters that allow millions of homes and businesses to access the energy they need. We are the national gas network, providing secure energy to power Britain, achieve net zero, and maintain our industrial competitiveness.

System Operations is responsible for operating, controlling and monitoring the Gas National Transmission System in real time, making gas available when and where our customers across Great Britain need it, playing an essential role in keeping Britain’s homes warm and its industry moving. We also facilitate the efficient operation of the GB gas market.

About The Role

As an Emergency Response & Resilience Officer, you’ll play a diverse and vital role in strengthening the resilience at the heart of National Gas. You’ll help ensure we are fully prepared to respond to and recover from disruptive events that could impact the continuity of our operations.

Working closely with the central Crisis and Continuity Team, you’ll support the development, testing, and continual improvement of our emergency response and business continuity capabilities. This is a key role in safeguarding the UK’s gas transmission network and ensuring operational readiness in the face of potential threats.

You’ll review and enhance business continuity documentation, including impact assessments and response plans, ensuring they reflect current capabilities and best practices. You’ll also design and deliver exercises to test our resilience strategies and capture key learnings for continuous improvement.

Collaboration is central to this role. You’ll work with internal stakeholders across National Gas and engage with external partners such as emergency services, local authorities, and government bodies to develop and align emergency response plans.

You’ll also contribute to the development of training packages for key response personnel and stay up to date with the latest developments in emergency planning to ensure our practices remain industry-leading.

What we are looking for

To be successful in this role, you'll be a detail-oriented and proactive professional with a strong background in emergency planning or business continuity. You will either be qualified by experience or hold a degree in a relevant discipline and a certification from the Business Continuity Institute.

You bring excellent communication skills and experience working with a range of stakeholders and be able to adapt to the ever-changing landscape we operate in. You’re confident managing documentation, running exercises, and applying your knowledge of the UK resilience framework in a critical national infrastructure environment.
