Permanent, full time Warwick based with hybrid working. National Gas is securing Britain’s energy. We are responsible for transporting gas to power stations, major industries, storage facilities, and more than half a million businesses and 24 million homes through nearly 5,000 miles of pipes across Britain. The Innovation Analyst (Digital) will provide analytical and delivery support across a diverse portfolio of innovative digital research and data projects that improve the efficiency, reliability and future capability of the gas transmission system. As part of our Innovation wider team, the successful candidate will help shape ideas into clearly defined digital initiatives by supporting discovery, user and stakeholder research, technical scoping, and development of robust business cases. Working with Innovation, Digital/IT, operational teams and external partners where required, the role supports proof‑of‑concept (PoC) activity, validates value and feasibility, and contributes to the successful transition of solutions into delivery and deployment within our IT business. Key accountabilities:

  • Support the Innovation team to deliver digital research and proof‑of‑concept projects from discovery through to handover.
  • Contribute to strategic roadmaps by gathering evidence, analysing trends, and helping prioritise opportunities based on value, risk and feasibility.
  • Work with UK and wider stakeholders to understand user needs and operational problems, translating them into clear requirements, assumptions, dependencies and success measures.
  • Support delivery governance for innovation projects (including externally funded programmes where applicable), ensuring plans, risks, issues and decisions are documented and progressed.
  • Create clear insight outputs (e.g., briefs, dashboards, findings packs) to communicate project progress, outcomes and recommendations to the business.
  • Support identification of external partners and (where relevant) funding opportunities by gathering evidence, drafting inputs and coordinating required information.
  • Help develop project scopes (problem statement, options, data needs, integrations, security considerations, dependencies and resources) and contribute to business cases and investment papers.
  • Support benefits definition and tracking (costs, savings, risk reduction, customer value) and ensure assumptions are evidenced and documented.
  • Monitor and report project delivery progress against time, cost, quality and benefits, escalating risks and issues appropriately.

About you:

  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant subject such as data/analytics, computer science, engineering, mathematics, economics or similar is essential; and we’re looking for familiarity with one or more of: SQL, Python/R, Power Platform, GIS, data engineering concepts, user research methods, or technology/business analysis qualifications.
  • Experience (academic, placement or workplace) in analysis and problem solving, including structured approaches to defining problems and measuring outcomes.
  • Working knowledge of data analysis tools (e.g., Excel; Power BI or similar), IT software's and comfort working with data sets (cleaning, basic modelling, visualisation).
  • Basic understanding of digital delivery concepts (e.g. requirements, user stories, agile delivery, testing, and release/handover).
  • Awareness of data governance and information security principles (handling sensitive data appropriately).
  • Ability to support development of business cases (costs, benefits, assumptions, risks).
  • Curiosity and learning mindset—willing to develop knowledge of the gas transmission context and associated digital/asset data.
  • Facilitation and ideation techniques.
  • Data driven insights and decisions to support evaluation, impact and prioritisation.
