About The Role: Securing Britain’s Energy - one meter, one connection, one customer at a time. At National Gas we operate the gas National Transmission System and, through National Gas Metering, support around 5 million gas meter installations across the UK. We’re growing our portfolio of gas metering products, services, connections and Automated Meter Reading (AMR) solutions and we need a commercially driven, hands‑on business development expert to help make it happen.

You’ll be responsible for managing and growing an existing portfolio of customer contracts alongside identifying and building a new business pipeline via direct prospecting and by developing third‑party intermediaries (brokers/TPIs/partners) partnerships. Whilst you won’t manage a team directly your impact comes from what you deliver, how you influence, and how you keep work moving end‑to‑end through exceptional stakeholder relationships. The role will equally focus on portfolio retention and new growth.

What You’ll Be Doing: You will be responsible for managing, developing, and converting a robust pipeline for gas metering products, services, connections, and AMR through proactive prospecting, client visits, and partner referrals. This includes overseeing opportunities from initial contact through to contract closure, accurately assessing and recording customer site requirements, and coordinating with operational teams. You will develop and maintain broker and partner relationships, collaborate with internal stakeholders to enhance the customer journey, and leverage data analytics to improve conversion rates and partner performance.

What You’ll Bring: We’re seeking a driven customer professional with demonstrable evidence in account growth with existing and future customers. With preferable proven experience in gas, energy, utilities, or technical services. You’ll confidently turn relationships into high‑quality routes to market, deliver consultative proposals, demonstrate strong commercial judgement, and excel at organisation and CRM discipline. Your compliance‑first mindset and attention to detail will ensure sales controls, safety and audit processes are always top‑notch.

What We Offer:

  • 26 days’ holiday plus 8 statutory holidays – plus option to buy 5 additional days
  • Double‑match pension scheme - for every £1 you put in, we'll add £2 (max company contribution 12%)
  • Opt‑In flexible benefit scheme, including salary sacrifice private healthcare, dental insurance, technology plans and more
  • Financial protection with 10x salary death in service and financial support if you're unable to work due to long term illness or injury
  • Excellent family friendly provisions - maternity/paternity/adoption/surrogacy/shared parental leave
  • Career progression, professional training and development
  • Employee assistance programme offering free confidential professional counselling 24/7
  • Financial support to cover the cost of professional membership subscriptions, and study support
