About The Role

As Managing Quantity Surveyor, you’ll play a pivotal leadership role overseeing commercial activity across multiple projects within the West region. You won’t be tied to a single project instead, you’ll operate at a regional level, ensuring consistency, performance, and value across a diverse portfolio of programmes. This role is critical to our success, helping us meet regulatory commitments while driving efficiencies, innovation, and cost savings across our operations.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading and mentoring a team of 6–7 Quantity Surveyors, providing guidance, support, and professional development
  • Driving commercial strategy and performance, with a clear focus on delivering measurable savings
  • Ensuring robust contract management, with the right agreements in place to support delivery
  • Overseeing commercial delivery across multiple projects and workstreams within the West region
  • Supporting and influencing commercial leads and wider stakeholders
  • Bringing insight into how works are delivered under utilities frameworks (e.g., MPA environments)
  • Ensuring alignment with regulatory and funding frameworks, including innovation and efficiency drivers
  • Embedding best practice across commercial processes, governance, and reporting

About You

You’re a collaborative, people-focused leader with a deep understanding of commercial delivery within the utilities sector. You’re comfortable operating at both strategic and operational levels, and you know how to get the best out of your team. You bring credibility, energy, and a strong commercial mindset, combined with the ability to navigate complexity and drive results in a regulated environment.

Key Requirements & Experience

  • Strong experience within the utilities sector (e.g. gas, water, electricity transmission/distribution)
  • Proven track record of managing and developing Quantity Surveying teams
  • Solid understanding of how projects operate within regulated frameworks
  • Experience delivering cost efficiencies and commercial savings
  • Strong knowledge of contract and commercial management practices
  • Ability to influence, lead, and engage stakeholders at all levels
  • Experience working across multiple projects or programmes simultaneously
  • RICS – highly beneficial for supporting and developing the team
  • Experience within organisations such as National Grid, water companies, or similar utilities environments
  • Broader understanding of funding models, regulatory drivers, and innovation frameworks
