About us: National Gas is securing Britain’s energy. We are the national gas network, providing secure energy to power Britain, achieve net zero, and maintain our industrial competitiveness. The East Region maintains seven compressor stations across Hatton, Peterborough, Cambridge, Huntingdon, King’s Lynn, Diss and Chelmsford, is home to the Bacton North Sea Gas terminal, and is supported by a Peterborough based regional office hosting key corporate and technical teams. A strategically critical region for the Gas Transmission Network, there is a strong focus on empowering people and making it a great place to work.

About the role: Step into a design‑focused role at the heart of the gas industry, supporting the delivery of essential Asset Health projects that keep critical national infrastructure safe, compliant, and reliable. As an Assistant Design Coordinator, you’ll help replace and renew gas assets that have reached the end of their operational life, playing a key part in ensuring projects run smoothly from start to finish. You’ll sit right at the centre of the design lifecycle, working closely with engineers, external design houses, contractors and wider project teams to keep designs progressing safely and on track. This is a role where you’ll be trusted with real responsibility, supported with mentorship, and given the autonomy to grow. If you’re aiming to become a Design Coordinator in the future, we’ll give you the tools, exposure, and support to get there.

  • Act as a key point of contact between internal teams and external partners
  • Respond to technical queries and requests for information to keep projects moving
  • Contribute to Formal Process Safety Assessments (FPSAs)
  • Support Management of Change (MOC) and commissioning activities
  • Help drive standardisation, simplification, and continuous improvement across designs
  • Keep documentation, timelines, and deliverables organised and on track

About you: You’ll be someone who’s genuinely interested in design and how complex projects come together. You enjoy being organised, staying on top of detail, and keeping people connected and informed. You’ll be confident speaking with different stakeholders, asking the right questions, and making sure nothing falls through the cracks. Most importantly, you’ll be motivated to learn, develop, and grow your career in a supportive environment.

Key requirements & experience:

  • Experience with Management of Change (MOC), ideally within gas or a process‑led industry
  • Strong understanding of the design and build process
  • Knowledge of health & safety and regulatory environments
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to coordinate across multiple stakeholders and teams
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • willingness to learn and develop within a design‑focused role
  • Full UK driving licence
  • HNC/HND (or equivalent) in engineering, construction, or a related discipline
  • Experience designing, maintaining, or installing gas transmission assets
  • Previous experience in a design or project management environment
  • Experience working with design consultants and resolving technical issues
  • Experience organising, chairing meetings, and capturing minutes
