The Senior Contracts Officer will procure system management services that support the operation of Great Britain’s gas National Transmission System (NTS), from both a commercial and physical perspective. These services include the management of strategic commercial relationships within the portfolio of accounts, and the management and development of specialist service areas such as ‘Balancing Services’ (Operating Margins) and Shrinkage trading contract arrangements; as well as other contracts (such as Data Services Contracts) that support operational risk management.

Key accountabilities:

  • Manage and develop strong relationships with Gas System Management Services providers.
  • Lead and manage standard Gas System Management and Data Services Contracts in own specialist area(s), including leading our relationship management activities.
  • Development and negotiation of Gas System Management Services Contracts (with support from the Commercial Contracts Manager as necessary).
  • Challenge service providers to drive efficiency in activities they perform on behalf of National Gas and our customers.
  • Lead the development of ‘Balancing Services’ contracts (including Operating Margins up to £28m spend per year) and procurement events to mitigate/control operational and incentive risks.
  • Represent the interests of National Gas and the broader industry, as the National Gas appointed member of Industry governance committees.
  • Work with the Incentive Performance and Development team to ensure timely and robust financial regulatory reporting and business planning forecasts.
  • Develop and lead strategies to help ensure continuous service provider improvement.
  • Ensure accurate invoicing of Gas System Management Contract Services, generally up to a value of £3m per month.
  • Identify service development opportunities and introduction of new services and service providers to meet the changing requirements of Energy Delivery.

About you:

  • Strong leadership, procurement and contract management skills, and the ability to manage and deliver multiple activities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, especially in the areas of influencing and negotiating.
  • Working knowledge of regulated industry, particularly around the commercial and incentive regime.
  • Experience of quantitative analysis and risk management.
  • Excellent organisational, reporting and planning skills with a high level of initiative.
  • HND/Degree in a commercial or business discipline or equivalent experience.
