About the role
We’re looking for an Operations Technician (Electrical / Instrumentation & Cyber) to join our team, playing a key role in maintaining and protecting critical infrastructure. This is not a traditional IT cyber role. Instead, you’ll work hands‑on with Operational Technology (OT), supporting the performance, reliability, and security of systems that underpin essential gas transmission operations. You’ll be primarily based at Avonbridge Compressor Station, with regular travel to surrounding operational sites as part of your day‑to‑day role. This position is ideal for someone with an Instrumentation background who is looking to develop into the growing and highly sought‑after field of cyber security within industrial environments.
What you’ll be doing
- Maintaining and supporting instrumentation, control systems, and cyber/OT assets across multiple operational sites
- Working with PLCs, SCADA systems, industrial PCs, firewalls, and network infrastructure
- Supporting the implementation of cyber security controls to protect critical systems
- Carrying out routine maintenance, inspections, and fault finding
- Investigating and resolving equipment failures, engaging contractors where required
- Collaborating with central cyber teams to ensure system compliance, resilience, and readiness
- Supporting cyber assurance visits, upgrades, and vulnerability management activities
- Assisting with installation of new equipment and secure disposal of retired assets
- Taking part in a standby rota following training
This is a unique opportunity to build specialist expertise while contributing to the security of critical national infrastructure.
About you
You’ll be a practical, hands‑on technician with a strong operational mindset and a desire to develop into cyber/OT security.
Key experience and skills
- Background in Instrumentation & Control (I&C), Electrical Engineering, or Automation/Control systems
- Experience working with industrial or operational technology environments (e.g. PLCs, SCADA, instrumentation systems)
- Strong fault-finding, diagnostic, and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to plan, prioritise, and manage work across multiple locations
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a wider technical team
- Commitment to high safety and engineering standards
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
- A proactive approach and willingness to learn and develop cyber capabilities
- Full UK driving licence (essential)
We welcome candidates who may not yet have direct cyber experience but are motivated to build a long‑term career in this evolving field.
What we offer
- Annual bonus of up to 6% based on personal and company performance
- 26 days’ holiday plus statutory leave, with the option to buy more
- Double‑match pension – for every £1 you contribute, we’ll add £2 (up to 12%)
- Flexible benefits including private healthcare, dental cover, travel insurance, and tech plans

- Financial protection in case of long‑term illness or injury
- Strong family‑friendly policies including enhanced parental leave
- Ongoing training, development, and career progression
