About National Fostering Group

With over 20 years experience, National Fostering Group is the largest independent children's fostering group in the UK with a community of over 2,500 foster carers. As a Group, we work with Local Authorities to provide the highest quality of care for children and young people. All of our fostering agencies are officially recognised by Ofsted, Welsh and Scottish regulators as either ‘Outstanding’ or ‘Good’ which we are extremely proud of. We also offer a 4 day working week - this means 80% of the hours for 100% pay! This will be given following a successful 6 month probationary period and is a performance based benefit.

About the Role

As Group SENCo and Education Advisor, you will be the first point of contact for staff and foster parents seeking education advice or support for children in fostering households. Covering services across England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, you will work with a team focused on improving educational outcomes for children in our care. The role includes:

  • Providing education advice and guidance, particularly around SEND and EHC plans.
  • Working with schools, local authorities and other professionals to drive education solutions for children.
  • Case tracking and monitoring progress and outcomes.
  • Delivering training and updates to staff and foster carers on education topics.
  • Project management to improve educational support and interventions.
  • Data analysis and administrative tasks where required.

Who we are looking for

We’re looking for someone with recent education experience who is adept at driving better outcomes for children and young people, particularly those with SEN. You will understand the barriers they can face and be confident working with a range of stakeholders to help overcome them. If you are a teacher, a trained SENCo or have some previous experience of SEND practice and law, particularly in light of the English government’s White Paper and the future of EHC plans, this role is for you. Strong communication, customer service and organisational skills are essential, along with the ability to analyse information, manage priorities and use your initiative.

Experience as a SENCo at primary or secondary level, or experience of SEND law, practice, EHC plans etc. in England.

  • Qualified teacher with recent education experience
  • Passion for improving outcomes for disadvantaged children
  • Experience of current primary and/or secondary education systems
  • Experience managing projects or driving change
  • Strong written, verbal and customer service skills
  • Full driving licence and access to a car (this role will include travel, face to face training and occasional overnight stays)
  • Experience in special schools, alternative provision or inclusion units
  • Experience supporting looked-after children
  • Case tracking experience
  • Understanding of Scottish and Northern Irish education systems
