We put prevention at the heart of SFRS and are looking for talented people who are passionate about engaging with our diverse communities and helping people keep themselves safe.

Our volunteer team provides key support to service initiatives and events throughout the year to inform and educate people in safety at home, on the roads and outdoors, and help communities to gain skills and awareness to stay safe and live well. Volunteers are expected to wear a uniform (which we provide) and represent SFRS with pride while upholding the Core Code of Ethics which underpin the culture of our organisation.

As a volunteer in our community, you will engage with the public directly, while assisting our operational and support staff.

Volunteer Responsibilities:
  • SFRS event support at fire station open days and car washes
  • Community engagement at public events like country shows, school fetes and partner events across Surrey
  • Safe and Well Visits. This is a lone‑volunteering role visiting residents in their own home to install hard‑of‑hearing alarms and provide home fire safety guidance
  • Assisting crews with training exercises and scenarios
  • Education team support with fire safety engagement across schools
