The predicted salary is between 12.6 - 12.6 £ per hour.

We are recruiting Reserve Firefighters, Reserve Team Leaders, Reserve LGV Drivers and Reserve Fire Control Operators to provide resilience cover during periods of unforeseen staff shortages, including strike action. These roles offer valuable training, experience and an opportunity to support your community.

  • Reserve Firefighters
    • Salary: £12.60 per hour + retention.
    • Support operational crews through basic defensive firefighting.
    • Requirements: Physically fit, calm under pressure, good communication, able to follow instructions.
    • Training: 2-day initial course, 6-monthly refresher days, annual exercise.
    • Allowance: £50 per shift. Must live within AF&RS area or 25 miles of the boundary.
  • Reserve Firefighter Team Leaders
    • Salary: £15 per hour training; £25 per hour shifts + £50 allowance.
    • Role: Lead and direct Reserve Firefighters at incidents.
    • Requirements: Strong communication and leadership; managerial or emergency services experience desirable.
    • Training: Two 2-day courses, 6-monthly refreshers, annual exercise. Paid 12 hours per shift.
  • Reserve LGV Drivers
    • Salary: £12.60 per hour training; £20 per hour shifts + £50 allowance.
    • Role: Drive Fire Appliances and support operational activity.
    • Requirements: Category C licence (3 points or less), good fitness, able to follow instructions, work under pressure.
    • Training: 2-day course + half-day driver familiarisation, 6-monthly refreshers, annual exercise. Paid 12 hours per shift.
  • Reserve Fire Control Operators
    • Salary: £12.60 per hour training; £15 per hour resilience cover + £50 allowance.
    • Role: Handle 999 calls, gather incident information and mobilise resources.
    • Requirements: Calm under pressure, accurate data entry, strong communication, good decision-making.
    • Training: Initial course + refreshers every 6 months.

General Requirements (All Roles)

  • Must live within the AF&RS area (or 25-mile radius for operational roles)
  • Full driving licence and own transport
  • DBS, medical and fitness checks
  • Flexibility and ability to work in high-pressure environments
