Your role and responsibilities
This is an exciting opportunity to join a specialist team responsible for delivering Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service’s statutory fire protection duties. - Assess remediation strategies and fire safety improvement programmes to ensure compliance with fire safety legislation and best practice.
- Review fire engineering solutions, remediation proposals, and building safety measures.
- Conduct fire safety inspections, audits, and assessments across a diverse range of premises.
- Evaluate fire risk assessments and determine the adequacy of fire safety arrangements.
- Provide specialist advice and support to housing providers, developers, businesses, building owners, responsible persons, and other stakeholders.
- Support investigations and, where necessary, contribute to enforcement activity.
- Work collaboratively with building control bodies, housing partners, emergency response teams, and other agencies.
- Deliver presentations, awareness sessions, and educational activities to promote fire safety and compliance.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of Protection policies, procedures, and professional standards.
What you will need
- Strong analytical and investigative skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to explain complex technical, regulatory, or legal matters clearly and confidently.
- Sound professional judgement and a balanced approach to advice, support, and enforcement.
- Experience of building effective relationships and working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.
- The ability to manage your own workload and prioritise competing demands.
- A commitment to continuous learning, professional development, and improvement.
- Ideally, you will have a recognised Level 4 qualification (or above) in a science, technical or social science discipline, or be able to demonstrate equivalent competence through a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) record.
- Experience or qualifications in fire safety, fire engineering, regulatory enforcement, building safety, or remediation would be desirable, as would membership of a relevant professional body such as the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE).
