West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service is seeking a Fleet Services Supervisor to thrive in a customer‑focused, front‑facing role. You will oversee the operation of the pool car fleet, requiring strong organisational skills and the ability to build effective working relationships. Please note: the successful candidate must hold a valid UK driving licence and be able to move vehicles regularly within council grounds and at other locations across the county.

Salary: £36,363 to £39,152 per annum

Contract Type: Permanent

Working Pattern: Full-time (37 hours per week)

Location: County Hall, West Street, Chichester, PO19 1RQ

No two days in our Fleet Resource and Support team are the same. You will play a key role in managing the pool car booking system and vehicle tracking system, as well as maintaining accurate data and records relating to the procurement and safety compliance of the ‘white fleet’.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the pool car team and its fleet, including day-to-day management of circa 90 vehicles based across the county, primarily in Chichester.
  • Responsible for work related to the WSCC ‘white fleet’ vehicle replacement plan, which includes circa 350 vehicles of various sizes from pool cars to school transport minibuses.
  • Direct line management of the County Car team who help prepare and provide vehicles, organise maintenance and conduct administrative duties related to this function.
  • Deliver a high quality customer focused service, advising key stakeholders in procurement options, costs and specifications to offer best value and pragmatic solutions to achieve their business needs.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Degree or equivalent professional qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant subject demonstrating a high level of applied knowledge in a specialist area.
  • Working knowledge of current and relevant Procurement legislation and compliant routes to market.
  • Valid UK Driving Licence.
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering a customer focused service in a retail environment within agreed performance measures.
  • Experience of effective budget management to ensure that external and internal budgeted expenditure, income and targets are met.
  • Strong time management, organisational, and prioritisation skills, both for your own workload and in supporting the wider team.
