Purpose of the role & how you will contribute: This role provides high‑quality economic analysis that informs and shapes policy affecting NFU member businesses and the wider agri‑food sector. As an Economist, you will analyse and communicate the impacts of current and proposed policy, acting as a trusted internal and external expert in designated economic and sector areas. You will evidence and champion the economic importance of farming and food production, translating complex economic insights into clear, compelling messages for diverse audiences.
What you’ll bring: You’ll bring strong economic knowledge, underpinned by a relevant degree or equivalent experience, and the ability to analyse complex policy and sector‑specific issues. You’ll be confident advising others, building effective relationships, and engaging with government and external stakeholders. With excellent communication skills, you’ll make complex economic information accessible across multiple channels. Organised, inquisitive and collaborative, you’ll work effectively under pressure, contribute as part of a team, and represent the NFU with credibility and professionalism.
