Got a passion for people, a solid grasp of employment law, and a knack for solving real world workplace challenges? National Express Bus is looking for an HR Advisor to join our team. In this role, you will be the go to person for line managers across our Bus business unit, providing pragmatic HR support and advice on all things employee relations. If you enjoy being out in the business, supporting managers, and driving positive workforce relationships, this role is right up your street. You will be based out of Digbeth, with the flexibility to visit garages as needed. This is a hybrid role, working 3 days on site. This is also a fixed term contract for 12 months covering maternity leave.

What you will actually be doing:

  • Provide Expert ER Advice: Guide line managers through everyday employee relations matters, including disciplinary, grievance, performance, and attendance processes.
  • Manage Sickness & Wellbeing: Support managers with our sickness absence policy, carry out home visits, organise Occupational Health referrals, and help employees safely return to work.
  • Attend Key Hearings: Join investigations, disciplinary panels, grievances, and appeal hearings across your designated locations to ensure fair and compliant outcomes.
  • Deliver Up skilling: Prepare and run practical HR training sessions for managers on topics like sickness management, flexible working, and conducting investigations.
  • Support Special Projects: Get involved in impactful business projects like company restructures, TUPE transfers, and continuous process improvements.
  • Handle Legal & Tribunal Work: Liaise with ACAS and external legal teams when necessary, helping assemble materials for Employment Tribunal bundles.

What we need from you:

  • CIPD Qualified: Qualified to graduate level CIPD (or equivalent) is essential.
  • Solid ER Track Record: Previous experience working as an HR Advisor, ideally within a unionised environment or an organisation with active Staff Forums.
  • Employment Law Know How: Strong, up to date knowledge of UK employment legislation and best practice.
  • Great Communicator: Approachable, reliable, and able to influence managers while keeping both a customer focused and commercial mindset.
  • On the Move: A full clean driving licence and flexibility to travel across sites.
