Warwick Full-Time No home office possible
National Energy System Operator

About the role

National Energy System Operator (NESO) recognises the potential of bright and talented individuals, and we encourage you to join us as Great Britain’s energy system undergoes an ambitious, exciting, and vital transformation. Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, more sustainable energy future. NESO is seeking a Technical Data Quality Lead to support and enhance our organisation-wide data quality capabilities. This role plays a key part in enabling trusted, reliable data for analytics, operations, regulatory reporting and AI-driven decision‑making. You will lead the design, development and operationalisation of technical data quality services—including profiling, monitoring, rule development and automation—ensuring NESO’s data is accurate, consistent, and fit for purpose. Working closely with stakeholders across Data & AI, Engineering, and business domains, you will translate data requirements into measurable data quality standards and oversee the performance and integrity of key datasets. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of data quality in NESO, embedding best‑practice tooling, processes, and controls to support our long‑term data and AI ambitions. This role is based from Warwick and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home. We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop, maintain and operationalise technical data quality services, including creating, executing and optimising technical DQ rules.
  • Managing data profiling and monitoring pipelines.
  • Maintaining dashboards and DQ metrics.
  • Ensure the accuracy, consistency and integrity of NESO data by embedding DQ standards, controls and automated checks.
  • Collaborate with data owners, engineering teams and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and implement fit‑for‑purpose DQ solutions.
  • Define, monitor and report on data quality KPIs, producing clear, actionable insights for senior leaders and governance forums.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of our DQ tools, processes and methodologies.

About You

  • Strong passion for data, analytics and AI with a drive to uplift data quality maturity.
  • Hands‑on experience implementing data quality services (profiling, rule development, monitoring, lineage integration).
  • Ability to parse, manipulate and analyse large, complex datasets.
  • Experience working in cloud environments (Azure preferred; GCP desirable).
  • Knowledge of relational and non‑relational databases (e.g., MySQL, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, NoSQL).
  • Proficiency in programming languages (Python, R, Spark) for data transformation and automation.
  • Strong data visualisation capabilities; experience building intuitive dashboards (ideally Power BI).
  • Experience with enterprise data quality tools (Informatica, Ataccama, IBM, Precisely, etc.).
  • Experience working in Agile delivery teams.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • (Desirable) Experience in the energy sector within analytics, data science or AI functions.
