We operate the world's fastest decarbonising electricity system and are working towards running it carbon‑free for a short period this year, provided the market supplies electricity exclusively from renewable sources. We provide expert advice to government on how to deliver a clean power system by 2030.
About The Role
As Social Impact Lead, you will drive positive change and shape a more sustainable future for NESO. You’ll lead volunteering initiatives, partnerships and community engagement programmes, measuring and amplifying the real difference we make to society. You will embed social impact principles across NESO, energise colleagues and align capabilities as we grow. The role can be based from Wokingham or Warwick and offers hybrid working and flexible arrangements. The position is open to both full‑time and part‑time applicants.
Key Accountabilities
- Manage NESO’s social impact offering, leading volunteering, matched giving, programmes and community engagement across the organisation.
- Manage the volunteering and matched‑giving platform.
- Track performance, monitor progress against targets and report regularly to peers and senior stakeholders.
- Establish, own and lead partnerships with charities and community organisations to deliver social impact.
- Collaborate with Corporate Affairs and Internal Communications to craft compelling internal and external stories from the social impact delivered.
- Create a repository of case studies that signal NESO’s commitment to broader societal value.
- Build an internal network across NESO to activate and embed social impact initiatives.
- Work with colleagues in different regions, nations and Corporate Affairs on engagement activities and initiatives.
- Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in social impact and community engagement.
- Design and manage social impact programmes and provide progress reports to inform stakeholders.
- Contribute to a collaborative, inclusive and supportive team culture in line with NESO values.
About You
You have:
- A professional approach, independently managing information and ensuring milestones are addressed.
- Ability to work autonomously with high attention to detail and accountability.
- Highly organised, capable of managing projects, events and multiple workstreams.
- High ambition and passion for creating social impact, with experience in corporate social responsibility, volunteering or community engagement.
- Proven experience managing volunteering programmes and collaborating with organisations, local communities or authorities to deliver impactful engagement.
- Strategic mindset, experience in designing and delivering engaging programmes.
- Strong communication, presentation and relationship‑building skills; able to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Experience leading reporting and project evaluation, reporting to senior stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
What You’ll Get
Salary: £47,000 – £57,000 depending on experience and capability. Bonus based on company performance. 26 days of annual leave (standard). Competitive contributory pension scheme; NESO will double match your contribution up to a maximum company contribution of 12%. Annual enrollment to NESO Savings Plan; when you save between £20 – £500 a month from take‑home pay, NESO will match 50% of your contribution.
